Q: I want a clear face again! Is it true that tooth paste works? If it does, how long do you put it on. I would like something I can use at home. Please tell me the thing and how long it should take to comepletely clear my face.
A: Toothpaste is a bad idea. It drys up pimples because it is very drying and at the same time, drys up the area so your skin will become flakey. Also it has irritating ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and baking soda. SLS is comedogenic which will block pores and baking soda is alkaline meaning it will damage the normal PH of your skin which is 5.5.Try a gentle cleanser. One that is glycerin or sorbitol based will be good and it does not need to be expensive. Cetaphil and Neutrogena has some pretty good ones. Try Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser. Wash your face at least twice a day and everytime after you perspire. If your skin is the oily kind, you do not need to apply any moisturizer, your skin oils are enough to keep it hydrated. If you really must apply a gentle light oil free one. Cetaphil® Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 or Cetaphil® Moisturizing Lotion is quite goodApply pimple cream to the acne area. Try benzoyl peroxide low strength(2.5%) first. You can try oxy, panoxyl or Neutrogena brands. Neutrogena on-the-spot is pretty good. Don’t pick poke scrub or pop your pimples unless you want scars which are really ugly. Scrubbing cleansers or washes are also no-nos because it equals picking and poking and makes acne worse Treated pimples gently.Eat healthy. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Cut down on sugar and carb intake. Foods like chocolates, coffee, soda drinks, bread, rice potatoes or anything starchy and sugary are no-nos. Cut down on oily and fried foods also. Go for grilled, steamed or baked food. Make sure you eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Ensure that your diet is rich in vitamin A, B5, C, E and Omega-3 which are important for the skin. Less stress and sleeping enough is also important. Not having enough sleep is like putting stress on your body. Makes sure you sleep at least 8 hours a day.Visit a dermatologist if it doesn’t work or worsen. Products can only help that much. You may need to tackle the problem internally with medication.

Q: I’m taking accutane and I’m getting dry skin/ dry lips, all the fun stuff.I’m just starting my 3rd month and its cleared up a lot of my forehead and for some reason, 1 side of my face.. the other side is “clearing” but its still not very good. they aren’t deep cysts, only red pimples all over.In addition, my face is pretty red all over just from having the pimples there. The dermatologist told me not to take any pills while taking acutane, so I’m not sure if that means vitamins as well?I have prom in a week and I’d really appreciate it if I could get some help here..1st – I’ve heard about all the cucumber paste, tomato, basil, tooth paste (I’ve heard it doesn’t work) and a lot of other natural paths, but what is the simplest home remedy that has for sure worked for you? How long did you do it and what were the effects? (reduce redness, swelling, clear acne, etc.)2nd – Should I take vitamins while taking acutane? And if so, what type of vitamins are best for clear skin?3rd – I read that milk and those products can be bad for your skin, yet I also read yogurts are extremely healthy for your skin – what is your knowledge on this?4th – I use a moisturizer that is for sensitive skin since my skin is dry from the accutane. I don’t need ProActive or suggestions like these please.I need natural remedies, help on vitamins, information like this. Long term would be helpful, and especially things that will help by next Saturday would be the best.(Also, I have a normal eating diet, probably less fatty than most, and I drink little to no pop. I don’t sleep on a certain side of my face and I change pillow/sheets often.)I need to reduce redness and clear up my face. Please help, and thank you.
A: For [preventing] acne Benzoyl peroxide, 2%, 5% or 10% or w/e with oil-free moisturizer (use after the bp has dried up), bee propolis powder (also apparently speeds up healing redness) and occasionally some AHA or whatever acids – but i’d get a breakout sometimes after them. For redness i use vitamin k oxyde cream – it gets worse for about 20 seconds then it’s okay. I do get acne after eating a cereal/ drinking milk… but i got told by my doctor that the diet has no impact on acne, so not sure..I also took garlic, twice a day, a bit better than with the odorless garlic tablets.Make sure you test some of these products before you use them…
