Q: Ok here’s 2 questions i am currently stuck on.1) When 3.269g of zinc is heated in pure oxygen the sample gains .8000g of oxygen in forming the oxide. Whats the empirircal formula of Zinc oxide?so for this one i figured out that zinc oxide is ZnO, and i need to find the masses of zinc and oxygen, but im kinda confused how.2) a compound having a molar mass of 165-170g has the following percentage of composition of mass : carbon (42.87%), hydrogen (3.598%), oxygen (28.55%), and nitrogen (25.00%). find the empirircal and molecular formula for the compound.for this im confused on why the masses are 165-170. does this mean i have to find the formula for each one (like 1 for 165, 166, etc)?I dont want you to actually do the problems but help would be helpful thanks.hey i kinda got the first io\on ei think, the empricial formula ended up to be just (ZnO) because the number of moles for Zn and O were the same. A: 1. I am confused on what you are asking since the masses are given in the problem. maybe you could clarify this a little? If you mean mass percentages, just take the molar mass of the Zn divided by the molar mass of the empirical formula, and do the same with the oxygen.2. Pretend you have 100 grams of your product, so that you have 42.87g C, 3.598g H, etc.Divide the number of grams by the molar mass of each element to get the number of moles of each element.Find the element with the lowest number of moles. Divide the number of moles of each element by this.At this point, you should have all whole numbers. These correspond to the subscripts on the empirical formula.To get the molecular formula, find the molar weight of the empirical formula. Multiply this by a whole number so that you get a mass between 165 and 170. Multiply each of the subscripts in the empirical formula by this number.
