Q: I’m really thinking about moving after i finish my Master here in Belgium. Frankly, i’ve had it with this damn place, it’s loozy grey cities, destroyed nature and dumb-ass politics and justice… I’m really looking for a place up North, somewhere where you can find some nice city life, and still be able to enjoy the vast nature there. I also like hockey, like alot, but i guess most of the countries named do… I studie Biomedical Sciences, so if one of these countries is making a real effort on biological grounds, like pharmacy, enviromental biotechnology, that would be great to find a job. At first, Alaska and Greenlad were also on the list, but both are among the most expensive places to live (Alaska=most expensive state in the USA; Greenland=most expensive transportation in the world, Antartica excluded). For now, Canada is my first choice, i’ve heard that people are extremely friendly there and there are major cities as well as open natures… But i’d like to hear from you…Anyone has any experience? What’s your opinion about the countries i named? Any good advice?Well yeah, i gues belgium is sort of unique, but it’s just not my cup of tea… Every thing is so cramped here… The only open nature you see, is the piece of farmers-ground next to the highway…Oh yeah i speak fluent Dutch, French, German (that’s what you get by living in a tri-langual small country) and English. Latin isn’t gonna do me much good directly is suppose 🙂 so, from that point of view, perhaps Canada or Alaska would be the best, though i’ll make no problem of learning a new language…

A: Alaska is more expensive to live in, but the pay is higher too and you get a dividend from the oil profits each year. plus they pay alot less taxes than the other states…i believe they dont have to pay any state income tax.

Q: After the excitement went away I realized that being in a country where I dont speak any other languages is very scary. I plan to visit major cities in Germany, France, Spain, and maybe Sweden/Finland. Im not soo worried about french and spanish because I can at least try to speak those languages and its a bit easier to see what signs mean even if you dont speak it.. my main fear is Germany due to the harsh and hard to learn language. are my fears well founded? Also I plan on making phone calls to local clubs to try to get work.. this is a problem as they will probably pick up the phone in german

A: Europe is very beutiful. But i like Slovenia most. Cuz it has everything, the coast, mountains, lakes, valleys,woods, caves. It is not big and there isn’t much criminal. U can party also. The best way to know where something is happening is to just ask the youngsters on the street. Bars mustn’t be far. Also prices are not so high like in switzerland. Slovenia is in Eu and Nato, so can’t be afraid. The also speak english, do not worry. People are nice, specilay to turists. It is worth visiting.

Any tips for backpacking in Europe?

Q: Summer ’09 the year I graduate high school I wanted to take a backpacking trip across Europe…I plan on staying at Hostels, and taking trains, starting in London and working my way back to London. I planned on 16 weeks, or around 3 months of traveling. I don’t really have a full on plan yet because it is some time away. But any tips, what to bring? what not to bring? What to avoid? I am a women traveling by myself…so maybe tips on staying safe. A: I think going it alone is just a bad idea first of all. If you are going to go just make sure you’re in contact with someone who knows where you are. A traveler going alone in hostels will probably end up getting roomed up with others (watch your stuff). London is very expensive but most of Europe is now anyway with the weak dollar.
