Asus Transformer Prime: The Talk of the Town

I know I’m not alone when I say how excited I am for Asus to release a follow-up to their already awesome Eee Pad Transformer tablet. Asus is pulling out all the stops for the Transformer Prime which will make it the Android tablet to beat.

With the fist ever Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor the Prime’s four main cores will be able to balance the workload enabling the battery to last 12 hours. The mobile dock will allow the battery life to jump to an unbelievable 18 hours.

The Super IPS+ display (1280×800) panel with durable Corning Gorilla Glass doesn’t seem to weigh the Prime down at all. Weighing in at 1.29 lbs with a thickness of only .33 inches the Prime actually weighs less than the iPad.

The Prime has a 1.2-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Sound powered by SonicMaster technology should create a more enjoyable listening experience than offered by any other tablet. Also included is a microSD slot, microHDMI port, 1 GB memory and the option of 32 or 64 GB of storage; the price for 32GB being $499 and the 64GB being $599.

Although the Transformer Prime comes running the Honeycomb version of Android, Asus assures that it will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich this year.

The mobile dock in and of itself is chalked full of great features including a USB 2.0 port, Full SD slot, and not only does it serve as an extra battery, but it also charges the Prime while it’s docked. While attached to the keyboard the Prime looks like a notebook, but together the Prime and dock only weigh 2.47 lbs. The mobile dock will cost an extra $149, but will be well worth the price.

The Transformer Prime will be available December; making it the perfect Christmas gift. Pre-order listings have already shown up on Amazon, Newegg, and Best Buy. While I’ll be busy saving up money for the Prime, I recommend you all go grab yourself one now; you won’t regret it.
