Bringing an end to their wedded bliss, Demi Moore has announced plans to divorce Ashton Kutcher.
Making a statement on the matter released on Thursday (November 17), the “Ghost” actress told, “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”
“This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation,” the 49-year-old actress added.
Meanwhile, 33-year-old Ashton later released his own statement, which read, “I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi,” he writes. “Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK.”
Moore and Kutcher spent six years married to one another, with the biggest rift occurring in September after scandalous rumors of an anniversary weekend hotel threesome including Ashton and two other ladies emerged last month.
Still the soon-to-be exes appeared to be working on their relationship, even taking a last-minute trip down to Demi’s ex-husband Bruce Willis’ vacation home in Turks and Caicos last week.
At the time, an insider told press, “They had to get away. Ashton’s tweeting [about Penn State] was the last straw. Things have been very strained but they’re trying to figure it out.”
September’s story of Kutcher’s alleged hotel romp is not the first cheating scandal that he and Moore have had to endure. In 2010, a girl by the name of Brittney Jones claimed she had sex with the actor in the home he shares with Demi and her children while she was out of town on a film shoot. As soon as word of these alleged trysts went public , the couple took off on a trip to Israel for what the actor described as a “spiritual journey”. As for Moore’s response to the story, she seemed to turn a blind eye, and even snapped pictures of herself and her husband snuggling together in bed.
These latest indiscretions weren’t taken as lightly however. “Demi loves Ashton as much as she hates public humiliation,” a source close to the couple told PEOPLE when Sara Leal’s allegations first surfaced. “The marriage isn’t good right now.”
