Add a touch of color to any room with a crocheted hexagon rug. A hexagon is an uncommon shape to use as a rug but one that is seen periodically. A single crochet stitch is the only stitch used throughout the pattern which makes it a very good beginner’s project. The instructions are generic so one or more yarn colors are possible. Simply change colors at the beginning of a row to make strips. This is also a good project to use up scrap yarn to create a multi-colored hexagon rug.
Things You’ll Need:
56 ounces of yarn (makes a 36-inch rug)
Size J/10/6mm crochet hook
Scissors
Pattern Instructions:
Note – Work with two strands of yarn while crocheting the entire pattern. Proper gauge on this crocheted hexagon rug is 12 single crochet stitches equals 4-inches and 12-rows equals 4-inches.
Row 1 – Chain 2 stitches. Single crochet six times in the second chain from the hook. Connect the last stitch to the first stitch of the row with a slipstitch.
Row 2 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet twice in each stitch around for a total of 12 stitches. Join the last stitch to the first stitch in the row for Row 2 and each row hereafter.
Row 3 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the same stitch as the chain stitch in this row and each row around. Single crochet twice in the next stitch then once in the following – repeat the pattern around for a total of 18 stitches.
Row 4 – Repeat round 3 for a total of 24 stitches.
Row 5 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the same stitch as the chain stitch. Single crochet in the next 5 stitches. Chain 3. Single crochet in the next six stitches then chain 3 – repeat around for a total of 6 chain 3 spaces. Attach the last chain to the first stitch in the row.
Row 6 through 108- Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the same stitch as the chain stitch. Single crochet in each single crochet stitch across to the opening. Single crochet in the opening, chain 3 stitches, single crochet in the opening and each stitch across – repeat the pattern around. Chain the last 3 stitches, single crochet in the opening then attach the last single crochet to the first single crochet of the row with a slipstitch. If you forget to add this final single crochet stitch, the hexagon rug will not be symmetrical.
Continue to work the pattern as in Row 6 to add additional width to the hexagon rug.
