Farm Fresh Food in the Sierra’s This Winter

If during the winter you find yourself sacrificing nutrition and fresh produce due to a lack of selection in the grocery store or seasonal price increases. There is a solution, CSA or Community Supported Agriculture, is a way the consumers support local farmers by purchasing a portion of their harvest prior to the season.

How it works is you become a member and pay an upfront fee which comes out to be around $25 a week. During the season you will receive weekly deliveries at a predetermined location. You can choose vegetable bundle, fruit bundle or both and they are brought straight from the farm and directly to you. The season is typically 24 weeks and you can expect a lot of food each week, about 10 lbs. You can easily share the bundle and the cost with a neighbor or family member and there is even an option to purchase for families in need in your area.

Specifically in the Tahoe area, Mountain Bounty Farms provides the delivery. MBF is a family owned and operated farm near Nevada City, in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
