Guy did not know at the time that he was making history by allowing Blacks and Whites to dine together in his restaurant. Guy Parker’s Barbeque Restaurant had always been a place where there were no color lines and people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds could come together over his famous pit-cooked pork barbeque, fall-off-the-bone barbeque chicken, seafood, and homemade side dishes.
Guy, along with his wife, Yvonne, operated Guy Parker’s Barbeque Restaurant for 43 years. The restaurant closed in 2005 after Guy became ill with cancer. However, Guy’s specially formulated sauce, used to make his famous pit-cooked pork barbeque and chicken, is still available to consumers.
