“Grandpa”

Yesterday, he, hated because someone decided that he was the wrong color.
Today many people in his community happily call him brother.
Yesterday he was a statistic, young, black, and uneducated.
Today he is an educator, turning that statistic gray and faded.
Yesterday he was a young father working to support his children.
Today, he sits among the trees, enjoying, friends, family and life.
Yesterday he was just a Grandfather to nine grandchildren, but little did the second to last know;
He was the man in my life as time could only show.
