Great Wineries of Montgomery and Bucks Counties

When most people think of wineries their first thoughts are often of the sprawling vineyards of Italy, parts of Europe, California and the American South. Despite this, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has become home to many family owned vineyards and their businesses are booming. Bucks and Montgomery counties are home to more than 10 local wineries and offer a joint Wine Trail designed to show their best. Below are just three samples of what south eastern Pennsylvania has to offer.

Cardinal Hollow Winery: Skippack, PA.

Conveniently located just 30 minutes north of Philadelphia, Cardinal Hollow Winery began in 1995. Currently the first generation bottlers specialize in over 25 different wines and producing over 2,000 gallons of wine a year. Cardinal Hollow is perfect for a day out with friends, some different with your significant other or simply just yourself on a day off. Their winery offers many great attractions for the public such as wine education courses, a tasting room, and tour of the facilities. There is no reservation needed. Samples of the wines are just $1.00 each or $30.00 for a sample of all wines and even gets you a souvenir glass.

Sand Castle Winery: Edwinna, PA.

Settled along the banks of the Delaware River, the Sand Castle Winery has been a first class destination since its opening in 2007. Sand Castle is the perfect place to visit if you or your family wants to learn the in and out of running a vineyard or are wondering about Wine etiquette. You can explore this culinary world by taking part in one of five separate ‘tour’ sessions sponsored by the vineyard’s owners.

With the VIP Tour, the owners take you through their storage cellar to give you professional advice on how to care and store your wines and drink while the Principals of Wine and Dine allows you to se how to pair off your bottles with appropriate foods and cheeses. The other tours go over the histories of the wines they serve and general tasting courses.

New Hope Winery: New Hope, PA.

Located in scenic New Hope, Pennsylvania, the New Hope Winery is housed in a rustic 18th century barn and has showed and sold a wide variety of Pennsylvania wines. Located between Peddler’s Village and New Hope, the winery features many wonderful activities for their guests. Visitors can take in some first class wine tasting where a friendly and knowledgeable staff can help guide you through the choices and offer food pairings. In addition to fine wine and gourmet foods, New Hope is also host to some of the best music, bringing in singers both local and national. Musicians such as Grammy nominated Bluesman John Hammond to 80s Punk band Lemonheads are slated to grace the New Hope stage this coming spring. Tickets to all upcoming shows are individually priced but most range between $20 and $25 dollars.

If you’re looking for a place to hold gatherings then you’re in business as well as their upstairs loft is available and holds between 25 and 50 people.
