Homemade Antique Silver Picture Frame

Rejuvenate an old picture frame, whether the frame is wood, plastic or metal, with an antique silver finish. This affordable craft is made from a recycled picture frame and used aluminum foil. Clean the aluminum foil prior to starting the project.

Things You’ll Need:

Old Picture frame
Ruler
Aluminum foil
Black acrylic paint
Sponge brush
Lint-free cloth

Instructions:

Step 1 – Remove the glass and backing from the picture frame. Set aside.

Step 2 – Measure the width of each side of the picture frame. Measure and cut strips of aluminum foil 2-inches wider than the dimensions. Make sure the aluminum foil overlaps on the back of the frame. If it does not, cut the strips wider to accommodate for the overlap.

Step 3 – Crumple the individual strips of aluminum foil. Open the strips and flatten. Do not remove all of the creases.

Step 4 – Wrap the strips of crumpled aluminum foil around the frame. Press and mold the aluminum foil to the surface of the frame. Make sure the aluminum foil overlaps on the back of the frame. If it does not, cut the strip wider to accommodate for the overlap.

Step 5 – Paint the aluminum foil wrapped frame with black acrylic paint.

Step 6 – Gently wipe the paint from the foil making sure to leave the paint in the crevices created by crumpling the newspaper. Allow the paint to dry for 1 hour.

Step 7 – Replace the glass and frame the desired picture.

Secure the overlap on the back of the frame with a thin line of hot glue if desired.
