How to Get Rid of a Hickey

So you had a fun time last night only to wake up to find this big red spot on your neck. You are not alone. Almost everybody at sometime or another has gotten a hickey. They can be a real pain to get rid of but there are ways to reduce the appearance of a hickey and help it to heal faster.

Something Cold

Ice is good but a spoon that has been in the freezer works just as well. The sooner the better with this one, just apply ice or a cold spoon to the hickey for short periods of time. This constricts the blood vessels reducing the redness and swelling. You have to be careful though because if you leave the ice on for too long it will turn into an ice burn and the hickey will look twice as worse.

Massage

You can try massaging your hickey gently with a toothbrush. Hickeys are just blood clots under the skin so if you want your hickey to heal faster you have to break up the clots. This works best if you apply ice first and then gently massage your hickey with a toothbrush because when your skin is cold the clots break up easier. Breaking the blood clots up like this allows your body to absorb the dead cells faster. Just be careful not to massage to hard because you can actually make the hickey worse by busting more blood vessels.

Eye Drops

Rubbing eye drops on your hickey helps reduce redness because eye drops have a chemical in it that constricts blood vessels giving the appearance of less redness. This may not get rid of the hickey completely but it will definitely make a difference.

Conceal Until Heal

The only way to get rid of a hickey instantly is to conceal it and allow it to heal. If a Hollywood makeup artist can make a face into a zombie then you shouldn’t have a problem hiding one hickey. The best way to conceal a hickey would be to put some green tinted eye shadow over it then cover it with a good foundation. This works because a green is easier to blend and cover with foundation than a red. You can also wear a turtleneck or scarf but if it is the middle of summer you might have some explaining to do.
