Repurposed CD Crafts – Crocheted CD Potholder, Also Known as a Trivet

Turn used CD’s into adorable potholder. These easy to crochet potholder, also known as trivets, not only protect the counter or table surface from heat but add a touch of color to the area. This is a great project to use up scrap cotton yarn! Allow 30 minutes to complete the project.

Things You’ll Need:

Worsted weight cotton yarn
CD
Size H/8/5mm crochet hook
Scissors

Instructions:

Row 1 – Chain 4. Double crochet 10 times in the forth chain from the end. Join with a slipstitch in this row and each row thereafter.

Row 2 – Chain 3. Double crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Complete 2 double crochet stitches in each stitch around for a total of 20 stitches.

Row 3 – Chain 3. Double crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch and in the next stitch. Complete 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch then one in the next – repeat around for a total of 30 stitches.

Row 4 – Chain 3. Double crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch and in the next two stitches. Complete 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch then one double crochet in the next two – repeat around for a total of 40 stitches.

Row 5 – Chain 3. Double crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch and in the next three stitches. Complete 2 double crochet stitches in the following stitch then one double crochet in the next three – repeat around for a total of 50 stitches. Finish off. Repeat Row 1 through 5 to make a second circle the same as the first.

Finishing:

Step 1 – Place the two circles on top of one another. Slipstitch through both layers in any stitch around the outside edge. Sandwich the CD between the two circles.

Step 2 – Single crochet in each stitch around to secure the CD between the two layers. Finish off or add an edge per Step 3.

Step 3 – Chain 1. Single crochet in the same stitch as the slip stitch. Complete a half double, double, triple, double and half double crochet in the next stitch then a single crochet in the following – repeat around to create a scalloped edge on the CD potholder.

Use several different colors of yarn within the project to give it added flair.
