Top 3 Vegan Makeup Brands

Makeup is one of my passions, and whenever I go out you can pretty much count on seeing me with cat-eye eyeliner, three-toned eyeshadow and a set of false lashes. Maybe I’m vain, but I love makeup. However, I don’t like that most companies rely on animal-derived ingredients to create their liners and mascaras, and I especially don’t like that almost every makeup company tests their products on innocent animals for the purpose of vanity. As a vegan, it’s important to me that the makeup I wear does not contain any animal-derived ingredients and that no animals were harmed during the creation of what I wear on my face. This article will provide you with a guide to what I feel are the top three vegan makeup brands available on the market. Some of these brands are easily accessible at stores like Target, while others need to be ordered online. Some of the brands featured in this list are not exclusively vegan and do sell non-vegan products, but you can rest assured that none of these companies test their makeups on animals.

E.L.F

E.L.F, an acronym for Eyes. Lips. Face is by far my favorite vegan makeup brand. Target stores carry E.L.F brand makeup, and you can sometimes find their products at Dollar Tree stores as well. If you do not live near anywhere E.L.F is sold, you can purchase their products from their official website. E.L.F is exclusively vegan and they do not test any of their products on animals. The company sells an extremely diverse variety of products, including dozens of eyeshadow colors, mascaras, eyeliners, makeup brushes, face powders and more. Most of the makeup products sold by E.L.F cost less than $5.00, making this by far the most affordable vegan makeup you can buy. E.L.F uses artificial beeswax in their products, so you can even wear their lip glosses and mascaras. For vegans on a budget, E.L.F is by far the best makeup company to buy from.

Urban Decay

If you love bold colors and have a bit of a wild side, Urban Decay is the company for you. Urban Decay specializes in wild looking makeups and carries a wide selection of vegan-friendly products. You can purchase Urban Decay at Sephora and Ulta stores, or you and order directly from their official website. All of Urban Decays vegan products are marked with a small purple paw, and none of their products are tested on animals so I do not feel buying from them requires sacrificing vegan values. Urban Decay is moderately priced but still affordable, and their shadow pigments are some of the best and longest lasting I have tried.

Ecco Bella

Featuring a line of all-organic products, Ecco Bella is an environmentally friendly and 100% cruelty-free makeup brand I highly recommend. In addition to vegan cosmetics, Ecco Bella sells a wide variety of vegan-friendly hair and skin care products as well as fragrances. Ecco Bella is unique because they are partnered with a number of animal sanctuaries and groups, and when you purchase some of their products you are supporting animal rights and conservation. Ecco Bella is moderately priced but is one of the best companies I have found for vegan shampoos and lotions.
