Counting down the top five hottest baseball players of the 2011 season isn’t an easy job, but someone has got to do it.
5. Brandon Phillips, Cincinnati Reds
Playing second base, the North Carolina-native lights up the small screen every time he’s up to the plate . With the smile of an angel, Phillips knows how to work the camera.
4. Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle Mariners
The right field superman hails from Japan and is an international dreamboat . The fact that we can’t understand a word of his native tongue is not a deterrent with a face like that.
3. Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees
Rodriguez didn’t have his best year in 2011 by any means, but the third baseman will always be a crowd-pleaser when it’s ladies’ night at the stadium. The celebrity athlete may get more press time for whom he dates rather than for how well his at bats turn out, but can you blame us? The man is a star.
2. David Freese, St. Louis Cardinals
The third baseman and 2011 World Series MVP provides a rare combination of skill and stud . He’s an unassuming Texan who happened to have a breakout season, all while looking good.
1. Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies
The Californian breath of fresh air is a critical component of the Phillies team on the field and is vital to the MLB at large, as far as women fans are concerned anyway. It’s no wonder why “Chase Utley Wife” is such a common search question. The second baseman has clearly caught our attention.
Honorable mentions go to Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees, J. J. Hardy of the Milwaukee Brewers, Rick Porcello of the Detroit Tigers, Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs, and Curtis Granderson of the New York Yankees. If this had been a top ten list, these men would’ve made us proud. But, you know what they say: there’s always next year. Good luck to all the potential candidates for 2012. It’s going to be a close race with wonderful results.
