is this just nervous behavior or?
Q: am I getting sick in some way? I haven’t been feeling well for a year [or many years, it’s kind of off and on] I’m 16 years old. I have asthma [frequent asthma attacks]. Here are some things that have been going on:-It always feels like I’m dehydrated even though I drink a lot of water on a daily basis. I always get that “I’m going to pass out then throw up” feeling that comes with being dehydrated. And sometimes I actually DO throw up/pass out.-My asthma is triggered by everything [from allergies to stressful situations]-I’m very thin. My metabolism is really fast. Whenever I eat a lot of food, I tend to LOSE weight. That really bothers me because whenever I hardly eat, I lose weight too [I am hardly ever hungry. Really small appetite I suppose? But I force myself to eat 3 meals a day.]-I’m always feeling faint and shaky. I can’t be outside too long or I feel sick.-I’m always sick. My family and friends try to avoid me when they are sick because they’ve noticed that I tend to get colds/flus 10x worse than theirs. [I’m not sexually active so don’t EVEN joke about AIDS. I get enough of those jokes from my friends. Not funny.]-My skin is almost translucent looking [not a lot of melanin or whatever even when I’m out in the sun. Veryyyyy sensitive skin.]-I can’t eat/drink certain things with some kind of sugar in it because it hurts my stomach verry badly. [Example: if I drink a coke, I get a stomach ache and I have to go to the bathroom to remove it maybe 10 minutes after drinking. Happens every time.]-I get nervous very easily and I have annoying habits [fidgeting, playing with jewelry, pulling at eyebrows/eyelashes, and most of the time my stomach gets so upset that I end up in the bathroom then I am shaky/weak for the rest of the day]-I always seem to know when something bad is about to happen. My body tells me by making me feel dehydrated and sick [today was the most recent day this has happened. I got the sick feeling, had an asthma attack afterwards, then I found out one of my family members had been crying over some personal problems.]-I don’t get much sleep. My body always wakes me up at certain times EVERY day no matter when I go to bed at night. I wake up at 4 a.m. If I go back to sleep, I wake up at 5:30, then 7:45ish, then 9:25ish, then somewhere between 10-11 if I continue to keep trying to go to sleep. I’m an extremely light sleeper. -I don’t know if this is relevant, but when I’m on my period [I know, bad subject] I get REALLY bad cramps…like blackout and scream for an hour cramps. And my period always lasts a longg time [longer than most people I know] and no pain medications help [ibuprofen, mydol, tylenol, etc]All of this is probably just the way my body functions [there’s probably lots of people who are like this], but lately it’s been really bad and I’m always feeling … real BAD. And it’s stressing me out because I’m usually a very mellow/happy person. But lately something just FEELS wrong. And my friends are starting to notice it [without me telling them. I get asked all the time “are you alright? you look sick.” “why are you so thin? are you anorexic?”] Does anyone else have these nervous behaviors/stomach problems? Advice? I’m just freaking out because it’s been getting worse this year and it’s actually starting to affect my daily life more than it used to. I don’t take any medications [except my asthma medicine, but I’ve been taking that since I was in 2nd grade] so I’m curious to know if I am overreacting and I’ll grow out of it or if maybe I should see a doctor.I know for sure I need to start taking vitamins, I’m way too thin and weak [even if I work out for weeks. I stopped that because I can hardly handle it anymore]Advice 😀 ?I forget if I already said this but, I go to the bathroom a LOT. And every time when I’m done, I always feel super weak like “I just threw up many times after stomach flu” weak. In fact, I feel that way right now and I’m not sick. I don’t know if any of these things are related to each other, but it can’t hurt to mention everything I can think of right? haha.I have gone to the bathroom so many times today it’s ridiculous. It’s like there’s something my body is desperate to remove and it’s driving me CRAZY. It’s like an off/on thing some days I’m completely fine, some days I feel horrible like I do today.
A: I’m not a doctor, but most of those symptoms are consistent with “Addison’s disease”. This is caused by a cortisol deficiency. The Common symptoms are:FatigueGrowing muscle weaknessLoss of appetitefaintingLow blood pressureNauseaVomitingStomach crampsLess common symptoms:ShakinessDifficulty ConcentratingHyper pigmentation (It seems you actually have hypo pigmentation, which suggests that you might not have addison’s.)Also if you have a severe adrenal problem then you could also experience:ConfusionFeverPale Face and extremitiesLoss of sleep or sudden sleepinessDehydration caused by vomiting or diarrheaYou have a remarkable number of those symptoms, including all the common ones, and most of the ones more characteristic of this specific condition. You might want to see a doctor soon. Addison’s can start suddenly, but usually doesn’t stop for the remainder of the person’s life. It can cause all of these symptoms and eventually be fatal. So, it’s not something you want to mess around with, and it’s completely treatable. Although, it’s a rare condition, so your symptoms might be caused by plenty of other things as well.
