Eating Low Calorie- Meal ideas?
Q: I really need ideas for low calorie foods that taste great and are prepackaged or easily storable for lunches etc. Examples of what I now eat are: Progresso soups (whole can for just 200 cal.), yogurts, 100 calorie packs (they seem so small sometimes, and Michelina’s frozen entrees. I love cooking, but when it comes to dinners or lunches I make food for my boyfriend and then substitute or add foods that are more low calorie for me. I am also kind of a picky eater. I like comfort food, not a lot of veggies… I do like the good ole corn and green beans though. Recipes that I can make, store, and easily divide would be ok. Or things that I can take for lunch and just heat up or keep in the fridge would be great. But what do you buy to fill you up low calorie, easy, and semi-inexpensive? I’m trying to expand my choices and feel like I have no ideas.
A: When trying to find good ideas for great, low cost, low cal foods choices, its always wise to stick with a few “truthes of food.” Fruits and veggies–even if you don’t have good friendships with them yet–are nature’s power packed goodies. So if you aren’t friends with them yet, start looking at recipes–spices, ways of cooking them (try grilling them, they are AWESOME! and so flavorful!) and even different ethnicities that you haven’t tried before. Food can be a great world exploration.Secondly–the leaner the meat, the better, generally speaking. When trying to lose or keep weight down, most of us don’t live in a climate or have an active enough lifestyle to warrant eating alot of fat. So lean meats do a body good! Chicken, Fish, Lean red meat, even occasional lean pork is great! As well, you can cook on the weekends for the rest of the week–such as grilling kabobs you can reheat in the microwave or foil packets for fish–I cook orange roughy–a very mild white fish that is known as “poor man’s lobster” for its meaty texture and no so fishy taste–with garlic and slices of lemon and orange and a tiny bit of butter in a foil packet on the grill. I cook my veggies at the same time in another packet and usually serve it with rice. This too easily divides to be used later.There are so many things to explore, don’t limit yourself right off the bat! Sure you’ll come up with things you don’t like and don’t want again, but the only way to learn is to stretch your wings a little! Get creative! Have fun and Bon Appetite!
