Is this really bad, my diet for today? What can I do to change it, but still be healthy?
Q: I’m currently in the middle of exams (I know, I’m on yahoo, when I should be studying, so please don’t point that out), and I’ve found that because of hectic study and stress I haven’t been as hungry and as a result, forgetting or putting off eating. Usually I eat like utter crap and have tried to change that, but usually struggle a bit. I go to the gym, but due to school and such haven’t been alot lately. I’m about 155cm, and weigh 48kg. Today looked a little like this:Got up at about eight thirty, had two peices of multigrain toast with vegemite and light dairy spread.Went for a bit of a walk/jog to clear my head between study sessions, and didn’t eat again until about two thirty, when i had about 3/4 of a small bowl of boiled vegetables. I’ll probably wait until dinner to eat something again, due to not really being hungry and laziness :pIs this okay? Should I eat more or less? What can I do to change it that wont make me gain weight as I’m trying to tone up and not gain heaps over exams and whilst im not going to the gym?
A: What you ate was great! But it was not enough. Life takes energy and using your brain to study takes even more….almost as much as running on a treadmill! You need to take in at least as many calories as you use up just to break even. For the average person, this is about 1500. It sounds to me like you have taking in about HALF of what you should. Exams are stressful enough….don’t add this to your pile…stress can cause you to gain more weight. EAT BREAKFAST with protein….this sets your metabolic clock. Add and egg or big glass of milk…or if you are a vegetarian, peanut butter to your toast. The veggies at lunch are fine but again, add some protein. Then, if you are not hungry have a protein shake or vitamin shake for dinner. 6 small meals a day are better than 3 large….snack all day on nuts, fruits, grains and make sure you get some PROTEIN (see the pattern here). Take that walk! Take two if you can…..get sleep, drink LOTS of water and good luck on your exams!
