My gums are receding, what to do?
Q: I am 16 years old and both my orthodontist and dentist both agree that my backside gums of my bottom front incisors are receding, but is not serious. My roots aren’t exposed, and it doesn’t bother me at all. They are considering a minor surgery/gum grafting. Does anyone think this is a necessary measure? Are there any other ways to treat this?
A: i wouldnt recommend getting any skin grafting if your roots are not exposed. when you have a little recession it isnt too bad, just do not try to brush too hard, and make sure you are brushing and flossing everyday especially because if you get food trapped in there then the gums will recess even more because they are getting food in there and the way that fixes that is to make the recede.
How do you maintain peridontal disease without seeing a dentist?
Q: I will not have dental coverage till Summer time. It’s clear my gums are not as healthy as they should be (they bleed when I floss). I noticed a few months ago that the back of my bottom teeth have this white looking junk on them that I can’t get off (most likely plaque or tarter build up) but the teeth with the white stuff on them are starting to turn a light brown color. I also noticed by one of my tooths that a small piece of my gum is very puffy and bleeds very easy. The rest of my gums are in good shape but there is just that little section that doesnt look right. I brush 2x a day, floss, and use an antibacterial mouthwash. I even put tea tree oil on that infected part of my gum. Please don’t tell me I need to see a dentist. If I could believe me I would. I have no insurance and can’t even afford a co-payment right now. What can I do to prevent my teeth and gums from getting worse until I can see a dentist in summer time.
A: Buy a dental irrigator and use a anti-bacterial agent to get rid of the bacteria. Periodontal disease is an infection. Cure the infection and you cure the disease. A great anti-bacterial agent is salt mixed with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. This will cure you gum infection quickly. Either brush it on and leave the mixture on for as long as you can or use a dental irrigator and add the mixture to it. The tea tree oil is a good natural anti-bacterial agent – just tastes horrible. The key is to flush the whole area – disinfect it all. Many of the antibacterial mouthwashes are not effective. The big brands contain alcohol which makes the condition worse. Look for natural brands such as perioscript that contain herbs and natural agents with no alcohol. Your gums will rapidly firm, up turn pink and healthy again.
First tooth broke thru, now what?
Q: My sons first tooth broke thru this morning, should I start cleaning it every day? Should I get a baby tooth brush, and what about a dentist? Lemmie Know what you did mommas!
A: Our Pediatrician recommended using a baby tooth brush and non-flouride baby toothpaste as soon as the first tooth appeared. That way it develops his toothbrushing chores early on. He loves it and now brushes his teeth at 1 year old on his own (and a little extra help from me). It’s part of our night time routine.Hope this helps!
