diabetic questions…..?
Q: ok about a month ago had a fasting test done the results were high (like a100 point over the norm blood sugar and like 10-15 times the norm insulin) and said i was diabetic, i have eliminated my soda, and a lot of bad foods and started working out…. went to another doctor and he did one of those quick tests not sure what exactly they are called and my numbers read 94 and 5.6… which they told me i wasn’t diabetic….. now they think i bhave pcos which never really tested me for that i have my period like clockwork, i ovulate ( checked that last 2 months again like clockwork)…. i am really confused i would really like to know has this ever happened to anyone? can anyone explain this to me? i am wanting to get prego and i want to be taking the medicine if i need to be and not if i don’t have to….. doc said don’t take it…….i am so confused!!!!!!HELP
A: It’s possible that you HAD developed Type II diabetes and your body corrected with your lifestyle changes. Good for you! Many people can actually eliminate the need for any medication by making lifestyle changes. They basically “cure” themselves. As far as the PCOS, it could be your doctor is checking into this because you’re wanting to get pregnant and are showing signs of it. Being overweight can cause Type II diabetes, but PCOS can actually be what’s causing the weight issue to begin with. Sounds as if this second doctor is on the right track. Find out for sure if it’s PCOS because it will affect the difficulty of getting pregnant. If he’s wrong, GREAT! There must be some reason he’s thinking PCOS so just let him verify it first and then move on from there.
Pregnant? Diabetic!!!! Help Please!?
Q: ok i took plan B the last week of may. so it wasn’t a surprise to me that my period would be out of whack! but i was spotting a lot and every time my fiance and i got intimate i would bleed this happened all of june ! but my period got back to being somewhat normal the last 2 weeks of june and the spotting stopped! The thing is that I’ve been feeling really odd and i don’t know if its that im might be pregnant or what! i haven’t had any bleeding and i don’t know when to expect my period because of the plan B pills i took! the symptoms ive had are -headaches – cramping (stomachaches) -dizzy – nausea(I’ve been trowing up a lot) – hunger( like really hungry within 2 hours of eating) -fatigue -mood swings(emotional) -hot n cold flashes (all day) and i have actually lost 5 pounds! from 149 to 144also when i took the plan B pills i didn’t do it right ….. i took the 1st one that next morning but you know how it says that you have to take the 2nd pill 12 hours after you took the 1st 1… i kinda forgot and i took it about 14 hours later! i rally don’t know if that makes a difference!i don’t know what to think….. see im diabetic and i just found out about 2 months ago…so my blood sugar isn’t always controlled. im trying! i know that high blood sugar can cause some or most of the symptoms I’ve been having.. Im just scared that if i am pregnant something might happen to my baby cause of my diabetes..so what i want to know is is it a possibility that i might be pregnant even though i took plan B and if these symptoms are common when having diabetes? and is weight loss an early pregnancy sign??? i would really appreciate the help and info! thank you! and i am going to the doctor but my appointment isn’t till the end of next week! should i go to the emergency room! ?im 20! i know that may not be important i just want to put as much information on here i don’t know if it makes a difference!im 5ft 6in and went from 149 to 144 in a week!one more thing! what can i do to make my blood sugar go down and get under control? i try to eat when im supposed to and what im supposed to. i take my insulin shots on time too! what else can i do just in case i am pregnant!
A: You’re right in that all of your symptoms can be easily attributed to the diabetes, and they’re also symptoms of early pregnancy. Take a pregnancy test and go to your doctors appointment- Plan B is only effective if the embryo hasn’t implanted yet. Even if you used it soon enough, you can still have about a 10% chance of getting pregnant. If you are pregnant, you need to get in with an OB as soon as possible. Your current doctor should be able to refer you to one with experience with diabetic patients. If your symptoms get worse (i.e., pain or vomiting) go to an Urgent Care facility (not an ER, you can sit in the waiting room there all day, and they’re often more expensive). HOWEVER, if you experience sudden, severe pain in your abdomen, lose consciousness, or start bleeding heavily, BOOK IT to the emergency room.As for getting your blood sugar under control, the link I provided in my sources has some really fantastic information for newly diagnosed people. The chat room is currently down, but they’re working on the problem- once it’s up and running again, you can get great advice from other people in your situation. In case you are pregnant, calm down and take a few deep breaths 🙂 Monitor your blood sugar like you have been, and be careful with your diet. Don’t drink, smoke, or do any drugs (not that I think you would!). At this stage, that’s all you really need to worry about until your doctor tells you otherwise 😀
