1. Bono doesn’t remember the times he came out on stage as the waifish little girl who said good night on her parents’ spangled TV show. But he does remember wanting to be a boy named Fred.
2. Bono’s mother, Cher, has been uncomfortable with the whole process, but that in the end she has supported her daughter/son. 3. In support of her son, Bono’s mother Cher has said “If I woke up tomorrow in the body of a man, I couldn’t get to the surgeon fast enough.” 4. As a child, Bono loved the classic horror movies like Frankenstein and Wolf Man. 5. He was inspired to change genders by the movie Boys Don’t Cry. He had a hysterectomy in 2005 because of endometriosis. 6. Bono has written two books and participated in a documentary about his life. Why did he go so public? He said that he had learned that children of celebrities need to tell their own stories of their lives, or else someone else will do it, and do it badly. 7. Bono’s father, Sonny, had a political career rather than a singing career after he split up with Bono’s mother, Cher. He served as mayor of Palm Springs, California, and was elected to Congress on the Republican ticket. He died in a skiing accident in 1998. 8. Chaz thinks his father, Sonny, He would have been good with his choice to change genders. “He was always cooler with that stuff than my mom, so I think it would have been easier for him.” 9. Bono started up a firestorm when he mused that ABC might cancel the show Ellen because it was “too gay.” 10. Bono would like to marry his longtime girlfriend. They both started out in a lesbian relationship, but now they refer to themselves as straight.
