There’s Chinese Food and then there’s Chinese Food. If you’re on the hunt for great Chinese, head over to Sammy’s Noodle Shop & Grill. Located in the heart of Greenwich Village (453-461 6th Ave), this spot serves up massive portions that make sharing and doggy bags standard practice.
On a recent Sunday evening, I ventured there with a friend because she had a craving for Chinese. It was a chilly evening so soup was on my mind. Should I have one of their Noodle Soups that are a meal in a bowl or small cup? I don’t know.
Looking around the room, we glanced at the various dishes being enjoyed by students, families, couples and friends. That’s looks good. What do you think that is? So many choices, how’s a person to decide?
One of the gentleman sitting next to us was eating a chicken dish that looked amazing. We asked if it was and he nodded to avoid talking with his mouth full. After he swallowed, he said “Chicken with Seasonal Vegetables (White Sauce)…delicious”. Chicken with seasonal veggies it is and cup of wonton soup.
Let me start with the soup. I have to say it was one of the best wonton soups I’ve ever had. The broth was flavorful with veggies and bean sprouts swimming in this luscious pool of flavors. The wontons were light and filled with shrimp and pork. Honestly, a bowl of that would have been an outstanding meal but we were being adventurous.
Our platter of chicken with veggies took up almost our entire table space. Picture chunks of white meat chicken that were moist and tender in a light clear sauce over fresh veggies. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The portion was so large, half would have been enough but it was so good.. we finished the whole thing. Bad girls.
I can see why this place is booming all day long. The menu is large enough to please everyone. And so much food, you will want to ask for a doggy bag (if you can tear your fork away from your plate).
