Eternal Security

Preface

In today’s day in age, Satan is using anything and everything he can to fight Christianity. One thing that Satan is using is the confusion of once saved always saved. Now before we go into once saved always saved we have to establish what salvation is.

Salvation

Salvation is knowledge that when you die you will spend the rest of eternity in heaven. A lot of people rely on there belief in Christ or the Bible as there means of heaven. Some rely on works. First of all let’s start at the beginning.

We are all sinners.

The Bible says in Romans 3:10 “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one:” the definition of the word righteous means morally upright; without guilt or sin. We know that no one is perfect. And the bible clearly says that here.

2. We cannot go to heaven.

The Bible also says in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Now the glory of God simply means heaven. God says here that because we have sinned that we fall short of heaven. Example: In baseball, when a batter hits a ball and it just barely falls short of the fence, it is not a homerun. So because we have sinned we fall short of, i.e. cannot go to heaven. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death…” Now a wage is a payment. So our payment for sinning is death. But everyone has to die. But in Revelation 21:8 the Bible says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” So the first death is one that we must all experience. But the second death is for all sinners, even liars.

Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins,

In Romans 5:8 the Bible says “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Also in the last part of Romans 6:23 “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Now God commendeth, or showed his love toward us by dying on the cross. Paul says here in Romans that eternal life is through Christ: However, it is a gift. It is something that has already been paid for and is completely voluntary. Just as we cannot make someone take a birthday gift Christ cannot make us choose him as our payment or wage for sinning. The choice is left up to us. Example: If you are standing trial for a crime and going to be sentenced to death. I step up and say “Your honor, I will take the guilt’s place and die in his stead”. The judge being wise, asks you if you want to serve your sentence yourself or if you will allow me to take it for you. This is the same scenario. Christ has died for our sins and already paid the price, we have to choose whether or not we are going to let Christ be the atonement for our sins or if we will pay the price ourselves.

If we accept Christ as our payment for sin, we can go to heaven.

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Also in Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” What it al comes down to is this. If we confess with our mouth, but also believe in your heart that Christ died to pay for our sins and rose again from the dead, we can be saved. For whosoever which means anyone; shall call which simply means to ask, upon the name of the Lord, and the name of the Lord is Jesus, Shall be saved from eternity in hell.

Conclusion of Salvation

We have seen from Gods word that we are all sinners and deserve hell as payment for our sin. But God loved us so much that his son, Jesus Christ, willing shed his own blood to pay for our sins. We can go to heaven if WE CHOOSE Christ as the payment for our sins. When I realized all of this I said a simple prayer. I said “Dear Jesus. I know I am a sinner and deserve to spend the rest of eternity in hell. Please forgive me of my sins and take me to heaven when I die. I receive you as the payment for my sins. Please come into my heart and life and take me to heaven when I die. Thank you, Jesus, for saving my soul from hell. Amen”.

Eternal Security

Now that you are saved, you may be asking your self, “how long will I be saved?” Well this is something that has been debated for years. People will tell you that you have to live a good life. But in Titus 3:5 it says “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us”. So going to heaven is nothing that we have done outside of letting Christ’s death be our payment for sin. And it says it is not by works. So I cannot get to heaven on my own accord. In Romans 6:23 we saw that eternal life is a gift from God. Well let’s see. If I give you a brand new car, can I decide two days or even two years down the road that I want it back? No, because I gave it to you. If I could take it back it would be a loan not a gift. And if Christ lied about it being a gift and all liars have to go to hell according to Rev 21:8, then we would have no hope for salvation. This brings me to my next point.

Titus 1:2 says “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began”. Also in Ephesians 1:4-5 it says “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,” Before the world was even created God had a plan. Gods will is for us to become his children and righteous. In Titus we see that it was a promise and in 2 peter 3:9 we find that “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell. In Matthew 25:41 it says “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” So hell is clearly not designed for us. God predestined us or had a plan for us to become his children aka a child of God. God wanted us to be his children. He wants us to trust and confide in him just like we do with our earthly parents. But consider this. No matter what we do we cannot change the fact that our parents are our parents. We have there blood running through our veins. We are the children of God and cannot change that fact once saved.

Let’s take a look at a few more verses. John 10:28-30 says “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.” So eternal life means life forever and in context meaning heaven, and when we are given that life we shall never perish. And it also says that we are in Christ’s hand and no man may pluck us out. And we are also in Gods hand and no man can pluck us out of his hand either. So we are double sealed until the day of redemption, and no man can change that. Not even I can take myself out of Gods hand. It says no man and I everyone falls under that category.

This verse sums up everything. I probably could have just explained this verse and been done but I want you to see that there is not just one instance in the Bible about eternal security. Hebrews 6:4-6 says “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” So that being said, this means that something is impossible. It is impossible for those who are saved if they fall away meaning if they get away from God and church, to get saved again. The Bible says it puts God to shame because we are trying to crucify Christ again. Romans 6:9-10 “Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.”

Christ died to pay for sin once. We only need to ask him for forgiveness once. We are sealed by Gods hand and no matter what we do heaven is a gift. It can never be taken away from you.
