Ezio Strikes Again: My Pick for Game of the Year

There are many excellent and riveting contenders for this years GOTY mainly being Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty’s newest edition to the Modern Warfare saga. While there are many other excellent games out there these rise above them.

The latest edition of the Creed series should be applauded for many things for one its continuum of game play from the first Assassin’s Creed. The game grows not just releases sequel after sequel as other titles sometimes do. Ezio who first appeared in Assassins Creed II grows more powerful, learns new skills and gathers new gadgets as the full story progresses from one title to the next. For example he gains a parachute and gun in Revelations when he is much older then in II showing him growing as a character and representing a passage of time that helps add to the feeling of historical realism.

As far as historical realism goes a great amount of effort was made by the Ubisoft team to generate and incredibly detailed and realistic world. Primarily based in Constantinople AKA Byzantium AKA Istanbul this game takes reference to the cities multiple identities and simulates the different society’s interaction with each other. The graphics or the scenery leave nothing wanted in this open world RPG. Granted the fictional aspect of the “Pieces of Eden” the game is so immersive you almost start feeling as though that itself is a part of history that was lost. Definitely a great game for those who love RPGs that provide a truly immersive experience.

In this chapter Desmond not only plays as Ezio but as his predecessor Altair as well. Desmond also gets to learn more about what is happening with him and his quest when he gets to explore mini games within the animus where he remains himself. Adding both to the game play experience and helping to further draw the player into the game.

In summary Assassin’s Creed Revelations is a game that will not disappoint anyone and will hopefully be as good a predecessor as it was a follower in the line of the Assassin’s Creed games. As it continues to grow and expand its experience to new players. For people new to this game starting with the original is highly recommended but not necessary.
