Fans Finally Get Another Glimpse of Incredible Hulk in “The Avengers’

We’ve seen Iron Man’s nice new suit and scenes of him flying through the city. There have been plenty of shots of Thor in his new threads swinging his hammer around. Captain America has been spotted in his new-generation costume tossing around his shield. Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Nick Fury have all gotten their little bit of limelight. Until recently, I was beginning to wonder if filmmakers were ever going to let us see anything more from the jolly green giant of the Marvel Universe.

We’ve finally received a couple new looks at the Incredible Hulk for “The Avengers” thanks to a brand new comic book-style movie poster and some new scenes in a Russian and German trailer. I’m not saying we received too much new from these recent promotional items, but at least it’s something. They’re guarding scenes of Hulk action like top-secret government documents for some reason.

Are filmmakers afraid fans will reject the CGI look of the character? Everything I’ve seen has looked as good as what we saw in “The Incredible Hulk.” When I did a photographic comparison of the two, the Hulk in the new poster seems to be fashioned after the one in the 2008 film. I wouldn’t think there should be a problem with the CGI since the technology continues to advance. They’re probably just trying to hold something back for moviegoers to get excited about when seeing it for the first time.

I’m very interested to see what actor Mark Ruffalo does with the character of Bruce Banner. He is a very likable actor who can add a level of sophistication and humor to “The Avengers” that will help balance out the team. It seems like Ruffalo is going to play him as a calm, collected, and possibly nervous type who holds his anger back until he’s ready to explode. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what he does.

I haven’t done a side-by-side comparison of the U.S. trailer to the German and Russian ones, but it seems like they have a little bit more of Banner and the Hulk in them. You get a glimpse of part of his face and a split-second flash of him knocking around some lab equipment or something. I know it doesn’t seem like much, but you have to take what you can get when you can get it!

“The Avengers” flies into theaters on May 4, 2012. The movie was directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, and Tom Hiddleston. It is being distributed through Walt Disney Pictures.
