Free EFL/ESL Conversation Questions: Career Plans

If speaking about work and career plans with your EFL/ESL students is your objective, you’ll want to use these free conversation questions. They work especially well with adult and university students. They also open up possibilities to teach work-related vocabulary. My EFL/ESL students have always looked forward to having a conversation about their career plans, and the following free questions have always worked out nicely.

What are your career plans? Where would you like to be in 5, 10, 15 years? Are you on track? What are you doing to make sure you succeed? Have you had to overcome any obstacles in reaching your career goals or has it been easy sailing so far? How important is your career for you? Have you ever written out your career action plan? Have you ever spoken with a career counselor? In your opinion, Is it harder for men or women to succeed in establishing a career? Do your parents have any “say” on your career plans?
Is power or money more important for you when deciding whether or not to accept a job offer?
