How I Bought the Perfect Wedding Dress

Finding the perfect wedding dress can be fun and at the same time exhausting. With my first wedding, I was luckily able to avoid most of the heartache and stress that comes with shopping for that perfect dress. I had a year and a half to plan for the wedding, and only a month was spent on searching for the dress that fit my taste.

My wedding was placed on a tight budget, roughly $5,000, since my fiance and I were the ones mostly paying for the wedding. This meant I had to find a dress that was affordable and at the same time made me look like a princess.

At first I thought I would have to go the really cheap route and find me a simple white dress for $100. Sometimes the bridal shops in my area will sell their outdated dresses at huge discounts to make room for the new dresses. I went with one of my bridesmaids to try on some of these “Must Sell Now” dresses, but none of them really fit my style. Going home empty handed, I decided to look online for any deals.

House of Brides has everything you need for your wedding attire as well as bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses. When I went to this site, I was a little uneasy about just buying a wedding dress without trying it on first. The website doesn’t give any return policies, so I didn’t want to risk buying a dress and having to return it.

After I found the perfect dress (which was a Mary’s Bridal designer dress with crystal sequence, long bell sleeves, and a 5 foot train), I wrote down the designer and style of the dress and called every local bridal store in the area. I finally found a store that carried that same dress. I called my bridesmaids and all of us rushed over to the bridal store. It took a few tries, those dresses run smaller than usual, but I was finally able to find the perfect size in my dream dress.

After I got home, I was very excited to go back online and order my dress. Now, if you do go to this site, don’t order your dress at the last minute for a few reasons. First, even when you order your wedding dress that fits, you still might have to have a few alterations done before the big day. Second, the site itself normally delivers your dress in 10-16 weeks. Finally, you want to make sure everything in your ensemble flows together. So if you have any missing pieces you don’t want to wait until the last minute to buy them.

Now, the dress I had tried on in the department store had retailed at $800.00. This was a little steep on my end, but still cheaper than a lot of wedding dresses out there. When I went online to buy the dress, I ended up saving about 35% and ended up only paying $500. And the best thing about that price is that it included shipping and tax! My fiance decided that as a Christmas present to me, he would go ahead and buy the dress for me.

In the end, it was probably the most stressless event during the planning of my first wedding I had to endure. Knowing that I had picked out and bought my dream dress for one of the most important days of my life had set my mind at ease.
