How to Salvage Your New Year’s Resolutions

Eight months ago we started 2011 with dreams, goals and aspirations. Along the way we face the daily distractions and challenges of life. The key to success in every area of life is the ability to refocus your goals and get back on the path of achievment. Now is the time to look back at the goals you set for the year. Have you reached your goals or fallen short? Are the goals still worth achieving? Follow these practical steps to make the most of the last four months of 2011 and enter the holiday season with the knowledge of your success!

Evaluate your progress.
Did you start the year well but lose momentum along the way? Do you need extra inspiration to motivate you just to get started? You must determine where you are now in order to get where you want to be. Be honest with yourself. Try to remember what inspired you to set the goals in the first place.

Keep doing what works. If you have made positive changes and are you have been successful in some areas of your life do not stop now! Stay strong and keep going. Give yourself a pat on the back. If it is not broke don’t fix it. Instead see if you can impart the principles that led to this success to other areas of your life as well.

Refocus your goals. Determine if your goals are still attainable. Keep your goals simple. Choose goals that are most important to you right now. If these goals are important then do what it takes to reach them. If they are worth setting then you still have time to attain them this year rather than waiting until next year’s list of resolutions.

Write it down. Make a goal concrete by writing it down stating what you will achieve and by when. Be specific. Post a list of goals where you can see it throughout the day. Share your goals with someone else and agree to hold each other accountable.

Take action. Break down your goals into the smaller actions steps that are needed to reach your goals. Prioritize your to do list and you will have a plan of action to achieve your goals. All the planning in the world does not make up for lack of action. You must take action to reach your goals. Now is the time to change your life. Do not wait until next year when you can show your resolve today!
