Keeping a Birthday Party Affordable

At a birthday party, a Mom boasted that the petting zoo “was only $250 for the hour.” Sure there were pony rides and the petting zoo was a hit with the children, but that is a lot of money to fork over for an hour. Some people go way overboard with birthday parties for small children and perhaps it is in their budget to do so, but this budget Mother needs to cut birthday expenses.

Deciding to go to Chuck E Cheese for the boys’ birthday, I went online to see about booking a party. At $13.99 a child, you get 20 tokens per child, 2 slices of pizza per child, and a drink. The birthday boy gets an inflatable crown with 8 extra tokens and a Ticketblaster experience. But at age three, the boys won’t quite grasp this concept so it seemed to me that those bonuses just weren’t worth the extra money. For seven children, it was going to be $100. That got me exactly 14 slices of pizza, which is barely more than one pizza.

With recent coupons of a large pizza, 4 drinks, and 80 tokens for $30, those go a lot further than the birthday party prices. To get the goodie bags, 16 extra tokens per child, and 50 extra tokens for the birthday child, you are looking at $18.99 a person. It just doesn’t seem like the greatest deal to me. For those who don’t want the hassle of setting up for the birthday or putting together goodie bags, perhaps it’s in their budget to do so. But this budget Mom is cutting costs.

How to cut costs at a birthday is to get tables together at a play facility instead of going with the birthday package. Go to the $1 store or a cheap party place to pick up the table cloth, plates and napkins, and party favors. If you want to do goodie bags, the $1 store is also a great place to pick up lots of different little things for a goodie bag. Some might just elect to do without party favors to save on the costs of a birthday party.

There is a lot that you can do to cut costs so check out the internet for coupons to get more for your money. You can also ask friends and family members if they know of any deals out there that you might not know about. Keep your eyes peeled for great deals and do your own decorating. You can save half the cost of a birthday party by doing the decorating and planning yourself. Now all you have to do is wait for the day and watch your child(ren) have a great time!
