Hello Loyal Readers,
I have been hesitating for weeks on writing this one for fear of offending someone but I am now over it for two reasons:
1) As a writer, I must always be honest about my thoughts, and not write solely based on what I think others want to hear. 2) I would like to hear your honest thoughts on this as well.
The show Sunday’s Best, for those who are not familiar, is like an American Idol type of show but the focus is on gospel music. Being a fan of gospel music, I took the opportunity, on two occasions, to watch the show.
After the first time, I was upset by some of the judges’ comments. I stopped watching for a while but then tried it again during the next season. The same thing occurred. At that point I made up my mind that I would never watch the show again.
What was it that caused me to become so upset? The shortened version is the fact that the judges will, at times, make comments about the singer’s anointing and if they perceive that the person worships God on a regular basis.
Wow! This bothers me for 3 reasons:
1) Who are they to judge? From what I can tell the judges are all current or former gospel artists. Does this give them the right to comment about whether they feel the person is anointed or if they are there for their own glory? 2) At the end of the day, it is a singing competition and each of the singers wants to win. If you want to ensure people are there for the right reason, why put them in a position to compete against one another? 3) Who is to say what an anointed singer looks and acts like? An anointing is between that person and God, our creator.
The question to my readers is: Am I the only one that feels this way? Am I looking too deeply into this? Please express your true thoughts whether good, bad, or indifferent, by commenting below.
I look forward to hearing from you!
