Top 10 Pop Songs for Thanksgiving

It’s time to get the food trays out, sit down with family (or friends) and eat like gluttonous wallabies… oh, and give thanks for everything. Just don’t forget to spend some time thanking people around you, and being thankful for all the good stuff in your life. In the meantime, you need a mix CD to play during the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Here are the top 10 pop songs for your Thanksgiving season.

10 Flying Turkey Trot by REO Speedwagon The song speaks for itself. It’s a cool instrumental from an arena rock band your kids never heard of.

9 Just Eat it by Weird Al Yankovic. A very funny song, sung to the beat of Michael Jackson’s “Beat it.”

Just eat it …

Get yourself an egg and beat it

Have some more chicken, have some more pie

It doesn’t matter if it’s boiled or fried

Just eat it….

8 Maximum Consumption by the Kinks (1972) Rarely played enough, but good for Turkey day.

I’ll have some clam chowder, followed by beef steak on rye

Pumpkin pie, whipped cream and coffee,

I wanna green salad on the side,

Don’t forget the french fries,

Pizza pie, garlic and anchovie.

7 Sugar Sugar by the Archies A sweet song for dessert from the 60s. I’ve always like this syrupy song. Your kids never heard of it, but we loved it. (Actually it’s been sampled 4 times into awful rap tunes).

6 I Thank You by Sam & Dave (1968) The ultimate Thank You song from the 60s set.

You didn’t have to love me like you did

But you did, but you did.

And I thank you.

You didn’t have to squeeze me like you did

But you did, but you did.

And I thank you.

5 Thank You falettinme be mice elf again – Sly family Stone, another smooth Thanks song.

4 People of the South Wind by Kansas. An ode the native American people, from the late 1979 Monolith LP.

3 Yummy Yummy Yummy by the 1910 Fruitgum Company (and by Ohio Express)

So much yummy food, so little time. Just make sure to share it.

2 Cold Turkey – John Lennon The tune is all about giving up over-eating, smoking and drinking. Most people won’t take that vow until the “day after.”

1 Thank You by Led Zeppelin is the top of our Thanksgiving song list. It’s a great Led Zep song from the 70s, and it says Thanks in all the right ways. Very cool track, enjoy it one more time.
