Top 5 iPhone Apps for College Students

As a college student, I can speak from personal experience about the impact iPhone apps can have on day to day life. Our lives consist of constant motion, putting mobility at a premium. By picking the best apps for your lifestyle, you will often find that you are able to replace your bulky laptop with your iPhone, saving yourself the added weight and increasing your efficiency at the same time.

So without further ado, here is my list of the top five iPhone apps for college students:

TransLoc – This app gives you a live feed of the locations and destinations of your campus’s transit system (if it has one). This way, instead of waiting 30 minutes at the nearest bus stop, you can walk five minutes and meet a bus at the stop around the corner. Many campuses are already a part of TransLoc, and more are joining every semester. Cost- Free Weather+ – Exactly what its name implies, Weather+ is one of the top weather apps for the iPhone available today. Simply program in the area code of your school and one touch will show you the full day’s forecast. This eliminates all the guess work that comes with deciding weather to take your umbrella to class or wear a raincoat. Cost- $0.99 Convert Units – This app is especially crucial to science majors as it is a quick way to look up otherwise pesky conversions between units. It does, however, have more everyday applications, such as cooking: For those of us (myself included) who did little to no cooking in our lives to this point but now find it a necessity, this app is infinitely helpful when determining how many mL are in a tablespoon and other such conversions. Cost- Free E-mail – It comes standard on all iPhones, but a surprising number of people seem to ignore it. Setting up your school e-mail address as the default on your iPhone allows you to instantly check and see if class is canceled, monitor adjustments in assignments, and rattle off a quick e-mail to your professor explaining why you won’t be in class. Setting up my e-mail on my iPhone has been one of the best decisions I have made while in college. Cost- It comes already installed StumbleUpon! – I know how seriously we all take our educations, but no one can deny that there are those absolutely horrendous professors who insist on lecturing you for the entire period, and won’t let you take notes on your computer because they know you’ll just surf the web. With the StumbleUpon! app on your iPhone, however, you can discreetly provide yourself with an endless amount of entertainment in the form of online articles, pictures, videos, and games. Cost- Free

I can say from personal use that all of these apps have served me well and made my life easier, and I hope that they will do the same for you! I am sure that there are plenty more apps out there that are just as helpful, and if you find that I have made any glaring omissions, please don’t hesitate to comment and let me know.
