There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen in the year 2012. The ancient Mayans have predicted change in 2012 with their long count calendar. We don’t know exactly what this means nor do we know what will actually happen on December 21, 2012. Some scientist say there is a good possibly that the magnetic poles will reverse. This has been known to happen throughout time. It has been a very long time since the last pole reversal which leads many to believe that we are overdue.
What a magnetic pole reversal means is our planet will be without its magnetic shield while in the process of reversing. We all know that the sun has what’s called coronel mass ejections all the time. These are just highly charged particles that can cause geomagnetic storms. With our magnetic field guarding the planet they don’t cause to much noticeable damage. In fact we get a spectacular view known as the Northern Lights that are excited particles that are entering the atmosphere.
Without our protective magnetic shield we would be bombarded by these particles that could strip away the atmosphere. The other major affect would be the intense geomagnetic storms that would occur. If that happened every power transformer would be overloaded and blow. If we had a mass black out we could be without power for at least 10 years. Power is the life and blood of our society today and without it we would be lost.
No TV, no running water, no fuel, and no internet are just a few things that we would lose and we rely on these things every day. Your navigation system would be worthless the poles would change and all the satellites would burn out. Not just that but, your refrigerator would not work for ten years or so either. This is just one scenario of many that people have concocted since finding out about the long count calendar.
Some believe that the end of the long count will just bring a change of times. They believe a new stage in human evolution that has never been seen before may occur. Maybe we will start caring more about each other and not so much about worldly items. To the Mayans this is a natural cycle that continues time and time again.
Keep in mind that whatever does happen in 2012 we all have each other and we need each other to survive.
