Q: I have been working out for about 18 months. At first I was just trying to lose fat. I did well and went from 230 pounds to 185 pounds. I then started lifting more heavy weights and started a bulk up program in October 2006. I have gained some good muscle, but I had to eat a lot to gain the muscle and now I am weighing in at 205 at 5’7. i would like to get some definition but I don’t want to lose the muscle I worked hard to gain. I can be quite strict in my diet and exercise routine so I am not afraid of a hard routine I just want advice that will produce results.
A: From what I hear, cut carbs. Keep SHORT SHORT cardio sessions that are really intense (read up on HIIT training). It’s like your work your way up to a 14 min SPRINT over the course of a few sessions.Long cardio is more detrimental to muscles than short, intense cardio.Also keep on with the protein and weight training sessions to make your your muscles stay where they’re at. Luckily your body has muscle memory. So whatever muscle you DO lose (and you will lose AT LEAST SOME when losing fat), you can gain back quickly when you are done dieting and get back full fledge into your weight routine.
Doctors or Bodybuilders: Is liposuction appropriate to lose that last pound of fat… to get “ripped”?
Q: I am not overweight (6’3″ 160 pounds), and am generally quite lean (can see striations in my shoulders, upper abdominals, etc.), but I can’t get rid of the last bit of blubber around my navel/lower abs (estimate it at about a pound of fat). It has very little effect on reducing weight, but it is very effective at removing stubborn fatty deposits that won’t shift with diet or exercise.
