How are you supposed to breath when you run?
Q: I find breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth helps me run farther but i’m hearing mixed reviews about this method. I’m afraid to breath in and out through my mouth because it feels like I run out of breath faster and need to stop. How are you REALLY supposed to breath when running?
A: Heck, Abby, I never knew you were SUPPOSED to breathe any particular way. So let’s just look at this logically. The purpose of breathing is to intake oxygen and expel CO2. I have always believed that however you do this most effectively and efficiently will benefit your body. Thus, in all my years of running, I’ve always run with my mouth open slightly – and just breathed without regard to whether it goes in or goes out any particular way. Hydration is surely a factor, but leads to a separate discussion entirely.Good Luck

Q: Even on short runs, I seem to hold my breath and it causes me to fatigue real easy. How can I work on it to get better?
A: I would start with a pace that is a comfortable pace…where you are able to breathe fully through your nose, like what everyone else has stated. And where you can have a conversation without trying to catch your breath.Your pace will gradually increase the more you run and the farther you run.

A: the way ur friend told you; the breathing through your nose and out your mouth is right.. thats what i do when i run. but because running is also a mental sports, that is probably why you start breathing so hard. try to create a rhythm and maintain it throughout ur run. also, try not to think about running, maybe listen some music or look at the scenery (like the other kids playing or something) lol
