When doing bench press I suddenly have a bad strain on my mid-back along my spine on the left side, why?
Q: I was doing bench press yesterday and breathing normally. During the set I felt something tighten in my back. It is almost along my spine on the left side. It feels better when i push it against a wall corner and kind of rub it out.
A: It is difficult to say. Are you benching with a flat back or a competition arch? Typically, anytime I feel a back strain during bench I adjust my posture, and the sensation disappears. I usually find that I had one shoulder or hip higher than the other, and when I straighten out it resolves the problem.
does breathing effect your bench press?
Q: like if i inhale when iam going up with the bar instead of exhaling when i go up with bar will it make a differnce if so how much big differnce or not so much and any bench tips on how to difine your chest plz tell meand when i bench i feel the pain in my arms instead of my chest why is this and how do i fix this
A: When you do a bench press, you usually inhale to expand your chest and then let the bar down almost to you chest, then follow up with an exhale when you need to lift (push up) the bar. This will be more effective, does it make logic sense for you. You can try to do an inhale and see if your chest expand. So when you push up (lift up), you will need to exhale. Do not hold your breath.
When weightlifting, how should I breathe during the actual lifts for……..?
Q: Bicep Curls, bench press, leg press? I was told that getting the breathing part right eliminates the pain you feel afterwards the next day.
A: Always exhale when you have to move the weights with your muscles. For bicep curls, you exhale when you bring the dumbell up. For leg press, you exhale when you push the sled with your legs, etc. I don’t think breathing will affect how you feel the next day, but it’s better for your heart, blood pressure, and overall workout to breathe correctly. Do you ever see the guys at the gym who don’t breathe? Their faces get all red and their veins look like they’re going to explode. Not good. Regulating your breathing also centers you and helps to relax you.
