A: It all depends on how determined you are!You have to stretch every single day. More than once a day if you want, just don’t hurt yourself!Go for a run or take a warm shower to get you muscles warmed up, then stretch. It’s not a good idea to stretch cold muscles.Do things like grabbing your toes, sitting in straddle and reaching out in front, butterfly stretches, frog stretches etc. Start by just holding them for maybe 20 seconds. Eventually increase the amount of time up to a minute or two at least.Once you’ve stretched out all the muscles in your legs, try to do the splits. Get as close as you can and hold it for a while. You will start to notice improvement in a couple of days if you stick with it!Good Luck!
how long will it take for me to get my center splits?
Q: I am about 7 inches off the ground and i am stretching for 30+ minutes every day and i go to cheer where we stretch 3 and sometimes 4 days a week. how long would you say it would take? ** I am also about 6 in off the ground with my left splits and i am stretching as described above. If you know how long it will take for me to get my lefts also…that would be great.
A: stretching is like other exercise in that you need to change the structure of your muscle to achieve your goal whether it be more strength, more endurance, longer length. in the case of flexibility if you take care of yourself (go to sleep on a regular schedule and eat properly), then you will improve faster as in other sports. then all you need to do is practice. 20-30 minutes a day a few days a week was enough for me to get a center split after a few months though it is not unheard of for people to achieve full splits after 1-2 mos. personally i find that after some cardio or at the end of a workout is the best time to stretch because my muscles are warm. the worst time to stretch is when your muscles are cold and you are doing nothing. you might actually prevent progress that way. for instance, holding a stretch for 20 minutes in front of the tv with cold muscles is not just a waste of time but could be holding you back. each stretch only needs to be held for at most a minute. note that there are various techniques to aid stretching. look up PNF stretching for one method.
How long until I can do the splits?
Q: Hi! I have to learn how to do the splits for a pageant routine in 4 months, but right now, I’m about 13.5 inches off the ground for a center split, and 10.5 inches off the ground for a side split. Does anyone know how long it will take until I can do a full side and center split? Also, does anyone know any excersizes that I can do which will help me be able to do the splits?
A: I got my middle split down really fast. What I did was hold it there for a full minute. Then for like another 30 seconds i kind of pushed down, then relaxed…kind of like bouncing. Then i got up stretched out, and did it again. I honestly got it in like two weeks and i am not flexible what so ever, but i find my middle split to do easier than my side splits. For side splits. sit with one leg under you and the other one straightened out in front of you. put your head to your knee. This should stretch out your calve muscle. the bend the front knee at a 90 degree angle and stretch the back leg. Then slide into your split. For me, this took longer to get. Even if you are 10.5 inches off the ground, try to take your hands off the ground and balance. It hurts alot, but it will help you improve at a faster pace. BE CAREFUL: do not keep your back knee bent in your side split. It is dangerous to your knee and you will never get your split right if you do it like that. try to slide into your split with both legs straight. I am sorry it is so long! But i hoped it helped! Good luck in your pagent. 🙂
