A: Depends on the time you fall asleep.Naturally if you sleep around 10.p.m. you will wake up around 6:00am – 7:00am (8 – 9 hrs)If you fall asleep around 5:00 am, you’ll probably need about 10 to 13 hours of sleep to fully recover and feel freshed but the cons on this is that you give your health a really good slap because you are unbalancing it heavily.Nature has set your internal clock to fall asleep at night, not in the morning.I once read an article where two healthy people where took part in an experiment conducted by a large university. That experiment had to do with sleeping time. One was forced to work in the morning and fall asleep in the night and the other stayed awake in the night and slept in the morning. After these men woke up, doctors took blood samples from them and they found that the antibodies of the second one (the one that worked at night and slept in the morning) were in such a high level, similar to those people who were infected by a virus!!!In another experiment, sleeping early in the morning is connected to quick aging of the body.Take good care of yourself pal. Knowing your limits will help you have less problems! My best wishes to you 🙂
How much sleep does an adult really need? I seem to be doing okay on 5 hours. How about you?
Q:
A: I do well with 4-5 hours too. I think some people just don’t need as much. My parents took me to a psychologist and a doctor when I was young because I was sleeping so little but they said I was functioning fine. If you feel alright after 5 hours, why worry about it? I’d try to get more, but if you can’t, you just can’t. They say 7-8 hours a night is ideal, but obviously that can’t be applied to every single adult in the world. We’re lucky 🙂
How much sleep does an adult need?
Q: I am wondering how many hours of sleep a night an average adult needs. I feel best after 7-8 hours a night. I was told recently that the length of time I sleep indicates I am depressed. I am not depressed. But this person was insistant. They said sick people need this much sleep or mentally ill people. They said the average healthy adult needs only 5 hours a night – more than this indicates a problem. How do you feel about this? I still will sleep 7-8 hours because I am going by how I feel… but what do you think is “normal”?
A: The amount of sleep a person needs is really individual to each person, but the amount of time to reach REM decreases with age. The average teen requires approximately 9-10 hours asleep, the average 30 year old needs 7, the average 50 year old 5-6. Lethargy is a symptom of depression, but just because one person requires more sleep than another does not necessarily mean that person is suffering from depression or any other illness.
