to have better cardio, you just have to get out and do it. Go for a run, ride a bike, or use an elliptical. all those are great cardio workouts. lifting weights is great for muscle tone. you don’t have to push yourself too hard, but you don…

You can. Its MUCH more efficient to split them up though. Actually most people do what is called a ‘cutting’ cycle for a few weeks to a few months, and then do a ‘bulking/toning’ cycle for the same amount of time. You burn more fat and gain…

Which is more effective in weight loss and/or muscle toning during a workout session:?
Q: I am a pretty healthy 27 yr old 5’4″ 133 lb. female. I try to change up my workout routines pretty frequently, for instance pilates one day, aerobics another, yoga another and weight/ cardio combos on others. During my weight/ cardio days this is my schedule:-cardio 20 mins. (either eliptical, stairsmaster, bicycle, or treadmill)-upper body weight training 20 mins.(various Nautilus machines) -cardio 10-15 mins.(either eliptical, stairsmaster, bicycle, or treadmill) -lower body weight training 20 mins.(various Nautilus machines) -cardio 10-15 mins. (either eliptical, stairsmaster, bicycle, or treadmill) -abs occasionally for 10 mins. (pilates & yoga take care of that area ?)Now, what i’m curious to know is, do you think it is better or more effective to focus on one muscle group each workout session? Is the full body not as effective, more effective, or does it really make a difference?
A: Wow. I think what you’re doing is an amazing mix already. Training your entire body each session is fine for overall toning. And mixing up what you do stops muscles “remembering” workouts and becoming undertrained. Focussing on one (or 2) body parts during a session is usually something body builders do, to completely overtrain an area. I’m guessing you aren’t after the big bodybuilder look, so I would stick to what you already do. It certainly looks very effective.
What’s the best fat burning/muscle buidling workout routine?
Q: I’ve had two seperate trainers who have given me two different stories when it comes to cardio v. strength training orders during my workout. One suggests doing all the cardio first and then the weights. The other suggest a 5 minute cardio warmup, weights and then 30+ cardio. He says this will help your body burn more fat and build more muscle… anyone have any thoughts?I’m a 25 year old female, 5’7″ and just trying to tone up- not loose a bunch of weight. Thanks!

Can I get cut, toned, and ripped like Matthew McConaughey from doing this workout in three months?
Q: My goal is to have as close to the body type of Matthew McConaughey as possible by the end of this summer (end of August 2009). Over this past Christmas season, I was weighing in at 235 pounds at a height of 6 foot 2 and a half. I’m 20 years old and I am a former athlete. I went off to college and stopped playing sports so I gained a little weight (I was never more than 200 pounds in high school, but I never worked out with weight training either, I just played hockey). I realized over Christmas break that I wanted to look like Matthew McConaughey, so I purchased the P90X home fitness program and did that over the period of three months during this past spring semester. I lost about 25 pounds in those 3 months and have lost roughly 7 more pounds since I finished the program back in April. I am currently 203 pounds and I still do some of the workouts from P90X every week and I have put more emphasis on cardio workouts now to try to burn off the rest of the fat on my stomach. I’m currently running 2 miles 5 to 6 days a week and I do a 200 to 250 combined total pushup workout with various hand widths and techniques straight out of the Chest & Back P90X DVD once or twice a week depending on how my muscles feel and I do a similar shoulders and arms workout routine with several sets of slightly high weight lifting with 8 to 10 reps, but so many sets of different techniques that it becomes a high-rep burnout workout as well (P90X philosophies again). Plus I do abs three separate days a week. I follow a pretty strict no sweets, low carb, high vegetable & protein diet that never exceeds 2400 calories in a day.If I continue this same regiment for the rest of the summer, totaling in at three overall months, will I be able to achieve the same build as Matthew McConaughey? PS- I have just ordered a thermogenic fat-burning pill bottle with a month and a half supply that I plan to add to the regiment. It’s called VPX Meltdown and I’ve heard several good user reviews and no bad rumors, plus there’s good scientific studies to back it’s fat-burning potential… Would you think this could help or hinder my progress in any way? I just seem to have a hard time getting the slight thin layer of thicker skin and partial fat off of my abs, obliques, and lower back. Everywhere else is well on its way to becoming relatively ripped, its just that mid section that refuses to pick up the pace. Any recommendations? Thanks!
A: to get ripped you need to have a low body fat %. BUT there are some people who’s bodies will never be able to achieve that kind of thing.Idk what body type you are but interval/circuit training is the best thing to do for your body.P90x is great because it’s that kind of training which is total cardio. Also you want to rest your muscles in between and never work the same group the next day.For abs you need to be using weights and do short reps higher weight– Do you have access to a gym or a weight bench?as with any program you can reach a plateau and stop burning fat– you need to switch it up when this happens and like I said, increase your weight but dont do as many reps. Also change up your cardio, instead of running 2 miles 5 /6 days a week play raquetball or bball or something one of those days, make your muscles work for you.You have to be careful not to condition your body by doing the same routine.edit:: dude these are my before (when I hit my plateau) and after, though yeah the 2nd pic I am flexing more but still significant difference in definition.abs beforehttp://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu154…afterhttp://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu154…
