Why am I vomiting at random intervals?
Q: I did drink last night, but not as much as I have in past occurrences where I did not get sick. I drank on a full stomach and drank plenty of water before, during, and after consuming alcohol. I did not get sick last night at all. I drank all quality hard liquor in mixed drinks.I woke up not feeling well today and just thought that it might be a hangover, though strange. I had a head ache, which is not odd because I always wake up with a headache regardless of whether I drink or not. Also I had a severe case of nausea. The headache went away quickly, but the nausea got worse and worse until I threw up. I didn’t throw up any alcohol, it was mostly grape fruit juice (I had a couple of greyhounds last night). I felt better for a little while and took some pepto bismol but I ended up throwing that up, too, along with some bile because there was nothing left in my stomach. Then I felt fine for a while and tried eating a small meal, which was ok… but then I ate some more and got sick again immediately.I generally feel better after I vomit, but only for a limited amount of time. I feel completely fine other than the fact that I get nausea with gradual onset and then throw up. Granted, I do feel a bit famished from not eating…I really don’t think it’s a hangover because there’s absolutely nothing else out of the ordinary with me. What are some ideas as to what may be causing my random bouts of vomiting?
A: Only a doctor would be able to diagnose you.It could *possibly* be Norwalk virus.Take it easy today and rest.Don’t eat anything until about 4 hours after your last vomiting episode.Stick to foods like crackers, soup and dry toast. If it presists for another day or two, see the doc.If it is noro, here are steps you can take to prevent from infecting others and from becoming infected in the future:”Norwalk virus”(Just remember that hand sanitizers will not kill this virus.House hold cleaners such as Lysol will also not kill you.You must use bleach.)The Norwalk virus causes viral Gastroenteritis which is known as the nasty 24 hour bug that causes explosive and sudden diarrhea and projectile vomiting.Usually non life threating but can cause complications in the very young, elderly and those with compromised immune systems.PREVENTION-Wash your hands before preparing food/eating food and most importantly, TOUCHING YOUR MOUTH/NOSE/EYES.The ONLY way to become infected with this virus is if you ingest the contaminated fecal/vomit particles through your eyes, nose and mouth. It is impossible to “breathe” in the virus BUT possible to become infected by breathing in aerosol “spray” droplets from someone vomiting right next to you.(the droplets settle within minuted but can still infect someone until cleaned with bleach)Even if your whole family breaks out with this virus, you can prevent it by washing your hands for at least 15-20 seconds with warm water and soap.Remember that you are not killing the virus, you are washing it down the drain even if you use an antibacterial soap (which only kills bacteria, not viruses) hand sanitizers are also not successful in killing the virus. If a member of your family comes down with the virus, let them know to wash their hands AFTER a bowel movement and vomiting. To clean infected areas, clean with BLEACH.Clean bathrooms (all infected areas) with a bleach solution as soon as possible and be sure to prevent cross contamination and wash your hands afterwards.Especially children! wipe down all commonly touched objects like door knobs, faucet handles, light switches, toilet flushers etc.People are STILL contagious even after 24 hours after their symptoms settle down so it is always important to wash your hands after the rest room (which you should do anyways!)The key to staying Norwalk virus free is to keep sanitary.Wash your hands after using the bathroom…you could prevent other peoples misery as well as yours!!TIPS:Do not share any cups/plates/utensils with an infected person and be sure to wash in a bleach solution to prevent cross contamination with the rest of your family.
Question about random Nausea?
Q: For the past week EVERY day I get nauseated. Today is Thursday… ths started Saturday. I’ve started taking vitamins; Women’s One-A-Day. I have been taking these for the past 2 weeks or so. Every morning on my way to work I get so nauseated. I haven’t vomited but have gotten to the point where I need to pull over because it gets so bad. I try and put a little on my stomach (pop-tart or Special K bar, or something to that nature) and drink a little soda thinking this will help it. It’s not HORRIBLE nausea but it’s starting to concern me. As of yesterday when I eat it makes me feel a little sick but not HORRIBLY sick. TODAY, both breakfast and lunch I tried eating and had to put it away. I take birth control regularly (YAZ been on it for about a year now); so I DOUBT it’s pregnancy (plus last week I had my period). I’m 19 years old, I’m 5 foot 5 inches tall, I’m healthy… I don’t know what’s going on. Will someone please help? What could be causing this?thanks!!!!
A: Check out your vitamin. Does it have iron in it? Vitamin supplements can cause stomach upset, especially when taken on an empty stomach, but iron is a big offender when it comes to causing nausea. I recently was put on prescription strength iron supplements due to anemia – I had horrible nausea! So horrible I stopped taking the supplement! You might want to try an experiment – stop the vitamin supplement for a few days, and see if the nausea resolves on its own. If it is indeed the culprit, try taking it a night before you go to bed – then you can sleep through the nausea. Believe it or not, this can work for some people. If your symptoms do not resolve, you should consult your doctor. There are a lot of things that can cause nausea.
random weird vomiting??!?
Q: Today I started to feel very nauseous and at one point I decided to go take a bath but when I got upstairs I felt the need to vomit. I held it in because I am afraid of vomiting. My mom lied in bed with me for about 2 hours while i was watching television and eating few carrots. After those 2 hours, I felt the need to vomit so I ran to the washroom, tried to breathe in and out slowly to pass it, but I started gagging and I hurled all of my carrots out. ONLY CARROTS.i stopped eating for the day, but i kept drinking water. my mother noticed that I was taking liquids pretty well, so she fed me Brocoli Soup.. which is kind of thick and stuff. Now I don’t know if I’m going to hurl it out, hopefully not because i don’t want to be hungry anymore. hahaha.I don’t know what may be causing this, but my thoughts on it are the following:a week ago I got 2 vaccination and one of the vaccination’s side effects are nausea. So I thought it could be the side effects from the HPV shot.My other thought would be that since i started being on THE PILL, for my periods just yesterday… I thought it could be from that, because in the side effects package, it had said that there could be nausea. What do YOU think? :)I also did fever for like an hour today.
A: I think it could possibly be the birth control.Usually with Noro (stomach bug) you vomit more than once and sometimes watery diarrhea is accompanied with it.I would eat easily digestible foods and try drinking ginger tea or ginger capsules to help with the nausea.Try this site for your fear:http://www.emetophobia.org/
