Anyone went through Thyroid Cancer?

Q:I have had a total thyroidectomy performed, radiation, and a full body scan. Thyrogen is one option for my next scan, or to become hypothyroid, as I did before. Anyone taken thyrogen? Is it as safe? As effective?

I too have had a total thyroidectomy and the radiation. I am in the stage where I’m on levothroid to replace the hormones my thyroid should be making if it was there. I have only had one body scan and that was right after my radiation treatment. Honestly, I would NEVER recommend anyone going into hypothyroid if they had a choice. You feel like total garbage, can’t walk for more than 5 minutes at a time, doing the smallest things such as a load of laundry or unloading the dishwasher will totally wipe you out. Believe me I was there for almost 6 weeks and it was 6 weeks of pure heck on earth. Do some research on Thyrogen and see what the FDA says about it. Also check out some thyroid cancer websites and get some other opinions as well if you haven’t done so. Source(s):http://www.thyca.org
