Buccal mucosa Cancer spread to nodes?


Q:My father aged 52 was diagonised of cancer in rt buccal mucosa in june06 he underwent 3 does of chemotherapy and later surgery was performed to remove the affected region .two weeks later there was swell around neck region (nodes) and is being administered radiation for last twenty days.but the swell is still there.are there any advanced therapies.reyes tube(for food) and tracheostomy tube are still there from surgery.

they spread to cervical nodes. if radiation doesnt help then go for interferons, they are very costly.
Buccal mucosa cancer can spread to nodes. By what u say, it must have been advanced cancer, b cos they used chemotherapy initially to shrink the tumor. But in surgery of buccal mucosa cancer, tracheostomy is not required, so that part is puzzling..If the neck node has developed after surgery, then the giving of radiation to shrink it is right.They will give 30 fractions, and only after completing the course the benefit will emerge. They should give weekly cisplatin chemotherapy along with radiation for five weeks.After few weeks of completion of radiation, your father will be assessed and may be considered for surgery again.All the best.U can contact me at [email protected]
