Can someone who has a stent fitted have an mri scan?

my hubby has had a stent fitted down into his gullet so he can eat better owing to a tumour.he has had lots of scans with no trouble.

You CAN have an MRI scan as most stents are not made of metal. The stents are usually made of polyethylene do they remain flexible.

It depends on the stent. What did you have stented? What is it made of? If it is made of metal you would not be allowed int an MRI scanner, the magnetic fields may cause it to move in your body, causing injury. In addition the magnetic field may cause any internal metalwork to heat up, causing burns. Are you due for an MRI scan? You will always be asked before entering the scanner if you have a stent, it is one of the stock questions. If you are concerned, ring the MRI dept of the hospital and ask one of the radiograpers, they will advise you.
