I had a TB test done today but have to wait a week for the results and go back for another one why 2 test?
Q:does anyone know what my arm will look like if it is positive? A what that really means? Going to be put on an arthritis med. but can not if it is positive. Any help is appricated. C

I don’t know about why you have to wait a week . If its positive your arm will get a large red circle on it where you got the prick . and it doesn’t necessarily mean you have TB . you can have the virus without having the disease Hey i dont think they will 2 tests the second visit is probably just to check the results of this one.A positive reaction is called a wheel and flare reaction. it will appear red, indurated and circular abt 5cm in diameter at the site of injection. what ur injected with is the antigen of the bacteria causing TB, if u were exposed to it earlier or have a latent infection, the body would’ve produced antibodies against it and the antigen antibody reaction causes the result.U are probably going to get a immuno suppressant for ur arthritis, these drugs are contra indicated in case of latent TB infections cause they can come out of latency when the immune system is suppressed.
You should only have to wait three days for your results. After that your results are not valid. If you are positive there will be a red patch around where the puff of air was put under your skin. If you are negative, nothing will happen.
Why a week? i only had to wait like 3 days.
I think it might react and you would see a little swelling. Like a bite. That would mean a positive contact so then you mght need an xray or sputum test to determine conclusively before you would be prescribed anything for treatment. But you really would need to ask your doctor.
well they need two blood samples to first compare the two to see if their are any iregularities and second to use for testing in TB
your not going back for another one, your going back so they can look at the area where you were given the shot, If the knot under your skin has gone away and their is no discoloration then you are good to go. If you had the TB skin test they will be looking to see if it is still puffed up and red. If where you got the injection is not visible or is barely visible you’re good to go.
