great advise by the nurse, only thing i will add is that if the wound is not getting better, or is getting worse, the antibiotic you are currently on may not be killing the bacteria, check back with your doctor, he can decide whether a different antibiotic is appropriate. if the wound is leaking at least let your doctor know, always better safe than sorry, and keep that wound clean.
Registered Nurse here; Yes Dear it is very possible it could be MRSA, in fact the odds are that it is MRSA. For MRSA is sweeping this country as we speak. Also the number one place to acquire MRSA is THE HOSPITAL. That’s right, it is the hospital. Now if it is MRSA, chances are the antibiotic your on will have no effect on infection. For with MRSA our resources for antibiotics are very limited and require a culture and sensitivity report from the laboratory to find out which antibiotic will work on the strain of infection you have. Please see your surgeon immediately. If it’s not MRSA, That’s Great, if it is YOU NEED TO BE ON THE RIGHT ANTIBIOTIC NOW. Thanks for the opportunity to address this question. I have had 4 outbreaks since April of this year of MRSA. Believe me hun, make that trip to the Doctor.
I agree.go see your Dr. have them do a culture to determine if MRSA ( severe staph infection ) is present. That’s the only way.Good luck!
Leaking poison? Do you mean it’s still draining from the surgery? That’s normal. Red & swollen is NOT normal. Get thyself to your doctor. The antibiotics you are already taking should help battle off any infection that’s trying to start.. Also, keep your leg elevated when you sit & lie down, take ibuprofen (advil) for pain and swelling, and put ice on the affected leg. Keep wearing the ted hose…those will help you not to get a blood clot. Take showers, not baths. You always want clean water running over the incision, not soaking in dirty water. But most importantly, go see your doctor.
