Testing for IBS?
Q:I’ve been having symtoms of what I think may be an ulcer or IBS lately. I was tested for an ulcer and all kinds of bacterial stomach infections and everything came back fine.My doctor scheduled me to come in and do a barium test for IBS tomorrow morning.Is this standard procedure for testing for IBS? What else could they possibly be looking for?I thought there was no positive way to identify IBS for sure.

My mom has IBS.The test help ween out the other things like cancer, etc. IBS is a way for the doctor to give what every you have a name because at that point they can’t find exactly what is wrong.I hope your taking the new test, the test my mom took almost made her pass out.Good luck. Yes, it is. I have had IBS since I was about 3 years old, and now I am 25. IBS is a very hard thing to diagnose, but if you have constant stomach problems that is probably what you have. I take medicine and it keeps my stomach under control. Don’t worry about the test, they do that to everyone. Good luck!
They’re looking to see if you might have Crohn’s disease, polyps, colon cancer, or perhaps even anomalies in the physical structure of your colon (kinks, twists, or stenosis). Source(s):I dunno.
Yes – might want to follow up with a colonoscopy
This is normal testing for IBS. Many years ago, my doctor at the time thought I had IBS, and I had the barium enema and upper GI testing done. Nothing was found, but 2 years ago I had very bad symptoms and had a colonoscope. It was really unpleasant but at least I had a firm diagnosis of colitis. Not what I wanted to hear but at least I know what I’m dealing with and can treat it. With further diagnostic testing, you will find out for sure what you have. It may take time but if you’re having problems, keep with it. I find it’s better to know what I’m dealing with and treat it properly than to continue to have problems and let the condition get worse. There are many conditions that affect the bowel–Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulosis, polyps among others. hiatial hernia, i had a low res xray on my chest once to find out I had one. Bad acid reflux until I tool cimitide for it. back off the milk and red meat.
