What would you do if you where in this situation?

Q:Ok, I have got tunnel vision, and I can’t see very well, I already have a medical condition which is my skull touches the top of my spine, a very very serious condition.Anyway i have been under a neurosurgeon, for the last 17yrs he transferred me to an eye specialist cos I was getting double vision alot, he done allsorts of tests and found that I might have some pressure and fluid leaking from my brain.Went to see another surgeon that deals with the head and pressures and fluids in the head he told me if he doesn’t operate I could go blind or if my neurosurgeon does do the main operation which is a 15hour operation I could be paralised from the neck downwards and my neurosurgeon has said all along he will not do it under no circumstances, so this other surgeon has gone to speak with him to ask him to do the operation to clear some of the problems, so now am faced with, either having an operation by leviating the pressures and the fluids or go for the 15hour?

i just wanted to tell you i will keep you in my prayers and good luck in what ever you decide.i think i would rather be blind then be paralised.but thats a very hard decision.please think very hard and maybe you could get another opion before you decide.good luck in your decision.and please do a lot of thinking before you do anything. kathy
Get another opinion. If you can’t, then ask which is more likely to happen: paralysis or blindness. Go with whichever operation is less likely to produce a bad side effect.
Hi, I feel so so so sorry for you, personally if I was you I would sit down with your friends family and the 2 surgeons and just ask them what is the pros and cons.Surely they will be able to give you some advice on this, you can’t go thru all of this without some help or advice. Also, ask the neurosurgeon for his advice and just tell him that you don’t want to do anything without his approval cos at the end of the day it is your life that will be wrecked not theirs and not your families. Also, if your surgeon rings you up ask him to talk to you over the phone and ask him the questions and get him to answer them, if he can and just pour your heart out to him tell him you don’t want him to do the 15hr operation.Your surgeon will do whats best for you he won’t let you down over all of these years. If he did operate what would happen would you get paralyasis permantely and the blindness will that be permant whatever way you go?Try asking for a shunt to be put in I know you mentioned it in the additional details but that could save you and does that stay in their for life?Anyway good luck for this upcoming operation but please really think about it and I hope you get all the answers you need for you to make your decision.Take your time in thinking about it, it is your life your talking about here not theirs, also I have one more point for you!!Lets say you didn’t have these operations would you go blind? And also if you had the operations what happens in later life?Have you got to have it done again or will the shunt keep the fluid away? Please add additional informationThanks and the very best of luck? wow.. that is sad, well, if it were me, if they presented me the opportunity, I think I would have the operation done, but that is just me, you need to get what is going wrong out of there, lord knows what will happen if you don’t later in life
