A Review of Kinky Curly Knot Today on 3C Natural African American Hair

Parents of curly-haired children know how difficult detangling can be after a good shampooing and how precious a good curly hair conditioner can be. Both parent and child generally dread an improperly conditioned comb-out. Although I love the effect of Herbal Essence conditioners on my little diva’s unruly 3C curls, after a visit to the Kinky Curly website in search of the next holy grail of curl care, I decided to try the Knot Today hair conditioner. The brand, sold at local Target stores, claimed to be free of chemicals, such as petrolatum, mineral oil and alcohol, which are famous for damaging delicate African American hair.

Kinky Curly Knot Today Price

The price for an 8 oz. bottle of the white, translucent concoction was $11.99. For a good hair conditioner, this price was certainly not astronomical, but Kinky Curly Knot Today had yet to prove itself. I was still uncertain that this highly touted brand would win the battle against frizzy 3C hair.

Knot Today Application

Excited to see if my daughter’s hair would mirror the before and after pictures on the Kinky Curly site, I washed her 3C hair thoroughly and smoothed two quarter-sized dollops of the curly hair conditioner throughout her wet locks. The translucent white conditioner is supposed to double as a leave-in, so I combed it through with a wide-toothed comb and did not rinse. The smell was soft and unassuming, not quite as yummy as the Herbal Essence brand but not at all offensive.

Kinky Curly Results

Immediately following the application, her curls looked shiny (even by wet-hair standards) and much more defined. The first two passes of the comb confirmed Kinky Curly Knot Today hair conditioner’s impressive aptitude for detangling. The conditioner provided exceptional slip, and the comb glided through my daughter’s locks with ease. Pertaining to natural African American hair, the ability to detangle may be the most desirable conditioning attribute. To avoid damaging delicate spirals and curls, unnecessary pulling and tugging must be avoided.

After my child’s curls had air-dried, the effectiveness of the conditioner was still apparent. Her curly hair was soft, manageable and shiny without extra weight or oiliness. Kinky Curly Knot Today works well on natural 3C hair.
