Celebrities seem to be filing for divorce en masse but these breaking divorce shockers have become a Hollywood mainstay. The promotional Kardashian wedding/divorce debacle aside, there have been some recent splits that many thought would end in happily ever after. Is it the money, fame and public scrutiny that does these couples in, or are celebrity couples just as susceptible to the pedestrian pitfalls of marriage the rest of us are? According to cdc.gov, there is currently a 50 percent divorce rate in the United States and Hollywood is keeping up with the trend.

The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony split is old news now but when it first hit seemed unlikely. After the birth of their twins and mingling of careers, the couple finally decided no amount of glitter and spandex could cover up their marital woes.
Brand Hits Perry with Divorce Punchline
Comedian Russell Brand hit songbird Katy Perry with the ultimate punchline when he filed divorce papers after 14 months of marriage. The couple spent the holidays apart and despite their whirlwind romance and exotic wedding in India, the divorce proceedings are going ahead at full speed.
Ring Wearers Klum and Seal
Even more shocking is the recent news of Heidi Klum’s split from Seal. Although both are still wearing their wedding rings, the divorce papers have been filed and no reconciliation is in the works. The couple has three children between them and one child from Klum’s former marriage to hair stylist, Flavio Briatore, who was eventually adopted by Seal. Although the couple renewed their vows on every wedding anniversary, it didn’t stop them from splitting in late January.

Tech millionaires are not immune to the divorce bug either. Elon Musk, founder of PayPal, and his wife, actress Talulah Riley, filed for divorce in mid-January. Musk promptly reported it on Twitter the following day. If a celebrity divorce happens and no one tweets about it, is it even valid? Probably not.
Sour Note
Clarinet aficionado, Kenny G’s marriage hit a sour note as well. He and wife Lyndie Benson-Gorelick have a private judge handling their divorce in order to keep the proceedings under wraps. The split appears to be mutual and amicable and, in Hollywood, a friendly divorce is half the battle.

Speaking of battles, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen, Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz, Camille and Kelsey Grammer, George Lopez and Ann Serrano, Olivia Wilde and Tao Ruspoli, astronaut Buzz Aldrin and wife Lois Driggs Cannon and several others all divorced this past year. By the looks of things, Hollywood is living up to, if not surpassing, the 50 percent divorce rate average.
