Naomi Watts to Play Princess Diana in Upcoming Biopic

Gearing up for what could be the defining role of her career, Naomi Watts has been named as the lead in an upcoming biopic about the late Princess Diana.

The “Dream House” actress will star in “Caught In Flight,” under the direction of Oliver Hirschbiegel.

Scheduled to begin filming later this year in the UK, the Stephen Jeffreys-penned screenplay will center on the last two years of Princess Di’s life as well as her humanitarian efforts.

Watts told press, “It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role – Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.”

The late mother of Prince William and Harry passed away tragically in a car crash in August of 97. She was 36 years old.

Stepping out for a fun-filled evening, Naomi Watts was spotted at a Jacobs Creek wine promotional event in Sydney, Australia last week (February 1).

The “J. Edgar” starlet looked amazing in a black and white dress with black strappy heels as she arrived at Centennial Park for the affair.

Naomi recently shared that she found it difficult to make it big as a movie star given the craziness that is Tinseltown.

“I got a million different reasons [for finding it hard to conquer Hollywood]. I think I mostly had to learn how to be myself and relax before anyone could even recognize anything in me and I just wasn’t in a very relaxing situation. I’m just not a very relaxed person. I was too nervous and as you know, people like confidence, especially in America.”
